Selling My Blog(s) In The Near Future

Tuesday, March 31st, 2009 | Other/Random, Site Flipping with 11 Comments

buy-hold-sell

It looks like selling blogs seem to be an ongoing theme so I’m going to mention that I will be selling some of my blogs in the near future. But don’t you worry, I’m not fully sure if I’m going to sell DatMoney just yet.

I own quite a few websites and blogs and I feel its getting harder and harder to manage these sites by myself. Although I have partnered with a few people so I can distribute the work so I’m only doing half, I feel its still taking up a lot of my time.

And if anything were to happen such as me getting sick (like I currently am), then I won’t be able to update like I would like.

I used to be able to multi-task and get a lot of work done but as of late there have been a lot of personal issues going on that has taken my attention away from my online stuff. And I would hate for some of my blogs to just go down the drain. Instead, I’ll try to focus on one or two blogs at a time, build it up again and hopefully sell it at its peak.

Of course, that never happens exactly how you would imagine.

I’m sure you guys are seeing a lot of familiar blogs that are going on sale such as TheUniversityKid and IronBlogger and it sucks to see those blogs go to new owners but I guess there is always a time to say goodbye. And seeing those blogs go made me realize that I should focus on a few projects at a time rather than 20 or 30 which can be distracting.

Honestly, I’m not sure which blog(s) I’m going to be selling just yet but whatever it is, I’ll eventually reveal the URL and maybe even write a quick eBook or password protected post on the details of it.

Last Call for Site Flipping Team Members!

The A Team for Site Flipping

Yes, I have finally managed to get time to come back to this and get this underway. I just sent out an e-mail to a bunch of people that originally sent me one expressing interest but for some reason I feel as though I’m missing some people. So, for anyone that is interested, please feel free and contact me by March 7th.

I know some of you guys have been patiently waiting and I’d like to thank you for that as well as apologize. I sent e-mails out a few weeks ago asking for you guys to come up with some ideas and thoughts so we could have something to at least bring to the table when we finally form. That way our brainstorming session should go a little easier.

Of course, if you guys got stuck, forgot about it or just completely didn’t give a crap about thinking up ideas, don’t worry, I have plenty that we can all build off of.

Everyone that has contacted me told me they have been interested in site flipping and want to gain the knowledge from this experience. Unfortunately, some of my site flipping experts could not participate this time around simply because they do not have the time and feel as though it’d be unfair to you guys. They don’t want to be the slacker in the group and let’s say we’re glad they told us that in advance.

In addition, I have partnered up with some of these site flipping experts on other sites so we have our hands full. I guess the difference between me and them is simply the fact that I have more free time on my hands. Some are in school, have day jobs, etc so it’s hard enough working on their other projects while trying to help us out too.

I have talked to a couple of you guys individually in partnering up as well so if you feel as though you can’t take on both tasks, just let me know.

This whole thing is mainly just a learning experience for most of you guys and a great way to get some knowledge similar to a one-on-one mentoring session. Of course, our goal is to make money while we do it but the knowledge and networking you’ll get with others is simply priceless. :D

Again, if you are interested please contact me by March 7th so we can finally get this underway.

Side note: I was going to send out the password to the $100/day Adsense post but since I haven’t had a chance to upgrade my Feedburner account or whatever, I’m unable to access to mailing list. Let’s hope I get that done this week!

I’m Starting a Membership Site

Wednesday, January 28th, 2009 | Make Money Online, Other/Random, Site Flipping with 11 Comments

Membership sites

You’ve heard right, a business partner and I are starting a membership site. But don’t worry, it’s not in the make money online niche or anything like that, we’re working in a niche that is relatively low in competition.

So, why start a membership site? Benefits?

I heard these are probably the best types of sites to have simply because you have recurring monthly payments going right into your pockets. I mean, having advertisers buy ad spots monthly is nice but it’s never really guaranteed each and every month.

Say we get 100 members and we charge $20/month, that’s automatically $2,000/month in revenue we’ll be getting. And the best part of it all is the fact that it’s $2,000/month recurring.

In addition to getting members to sign up for a recurring cost, there are plenty more ways to earn money. You can simply sell them a product like a simple eBook or something because they are already interested in the niche you’re in.

And honestly, if they are willing to sign up as a member for a low cost, more than likely they are willing to spend a little bit more on a simple product that would benefit them.

What is the niche of this membership site?

I know a lot of you guys are going to ask but as of right now I’m not going to be revealing the URL or the niche. I know some of you guys won’t like it but quite frankly, this niche has such low competition and it’s not worth revealing.

But don’t worry; we’re starting this membership site to flip it. The only thing is we probably won’t flip it for at least a few months. And if they site continues to grow and we continue to increase our revenue, then we might delay the sale. :D

How do you start a membership site?

Honestly, it all depends on what niche you’re looking for it to be in but most of them are all the same setup. I don’t have too much time to go into full detail on setting up an entire membership site step-by-step right now so I will have to say that post for a later date.

I just wanted to let you guys know another one of my projects that I have been working on. Matter of fact, if this one goes according to plan, my business partner and I have like five or six more membership sites lined up right behind it.

And again, they are relatively low in competition. :D

Stay tuned!

How Much Will Your Site Sell For? Depends On The Buyer, Of Course

Saturday, December 27th, 2008 | Make Money Online, Site Flipping with 14 Comments

cartoon-salesman-buyer

First of all, I hope everyone had a nice Christmas, enjoyed the holidays and received some amazing presents.

When it comes to site flipping, any site can be flipped just as long as you have a buyer. But how much is your site really worth? What are they basing it on? Are they paying way too much?

If you read this blog, more than likely you read Theuniversitykid.com as well as Slyvisions.com. And I’m sure you know both of them are selling their blogs. Matter of fact, Sly already did. He sold it for a $9,500 while Jason a.k.a. TUK can’t seem to get serious bids over $5,000.

If you ask me, TUK should have been sold for, at the very least, the same amount as Sly did, if not more. The reason why I say this is simply the fact that when it comes down to it, TUK had better overall stats than Sly so that would be the logical reasoning why he should have sold it more, right?

Wrong!

When it comes down to it, the buyer will look at the stats, how much revenue you make from the site, but it’s all about their preference on what they want to spend their money on.

So, if you don’t think your site is worth selling, you may just be underestimating yourself. See, no what you think, any site can be sold, all you need is one buyer.

Remember when our site flipping group sold ListLunatic? A lot of you guys didn’t even think it would sell for a couple hundred dollars. Matter of fact, I think there were only like three guesses around what it actually sold for – $2,000.

We didn’t really make any revenue from the site either but we still managed to sell it for a pretty good chunk of change simply because we found a buyer and we had some great selling points.

Now, if you barely get any traffic or barely make any money from your site, I believe there is a buyer out there especially for you… you just need to know where to look and know how to become a good salesman with great selling points.

So, never EVER underestimate yourself!  You’ll surprise everyone, including yourself.

Side note: Yes, I have received everybody’s e-mail regarding the site flipping team(s), just haven’t had a chance to full fix my e-mails because I have been out-of-town… and I’m still not home from the holidays yet.

Doing Your Research On What Sites/Niche People Want To Buy

Tuesday, December 23rd, 2008 | Make Money Online, Site Flipping with 9 Comments

Shopping Cart CarSince some of you guys are about to jump into site flipping, probably for the first time, I figured I’d give you a sense on what people are looking for. It’s very simple doing your research on what people are interested in; just go to your major site selling forums and see what people are asking for and actually buying – see, simple!. But wait, there’s more than just that!

First off, let me just say that the best type of site flip is the unique niches and ultimately the ones that make a good chunk of revenue. Though, I’m sure if we could all find unique niches and make money off of it then we wouldn’t need to do this type of research, now would we?

Matter of fact, if the unique site makes quite a lot of money with minimal work then you might want to consider holding onto it for a while. :D

Anyways, this is what I do before I create a site in which I will potentially try to flip:

Check Places Like Sitepoint and Other Marketplaces Like That – I tend to visit only the marketplace section where the sites are being sold as well as the section “Want To Buy”. If I see that a few people are looking for sites related to gaming then I’ll try to make a quick Wordpress-based site, make some money for a few weeks (or months) and sell it soon after.

Sometimes people are willing to buy the site based on the potential rather than stats and revenue proof. Just keep that in mind.

research

Check Out the Competition – No one wants to have a site and compete with millions in the same niche *cough* make money online *cough* so you want to check out the competition. If you’re starting a blog, Technorati is a good place to search to see how many other blogs are in the same niche.

You can also Google specific keywords related to the niche. Eventually, you will want to build links around your popular keywords anyways so you will have to look into this.

Will It Make Me Money? – I understand that some people will buy sites based on potential, traffic and whatever else; but most will base it on revenue. Revenue surrounds site flipping and you should embed this in your head because people will want proof. Plus, you always want to earn money from the site just incase you are unable to sell the site.

Will It Cost Me Anything? – A lot of pro site flippers tend to spend money to speed up the process. I am not one of those types. So, if you’re planning on spending money to build up a site, make sure your net profit is always higher. That should be pretty obvious.

How Much Time and Effort Will It Take? – If you feel as though you’re spending too much time on it then more than likely you are. Now, if you see potential in the site and making money then you should spend as much time as you need on it.

On your quest of researching, you should be checking out other people’s listings, and while doing so, you can take a lot of knowledge just from that. For instance, not only will you see the type of sites that are selling but you will also learn things like:

bag-full-of-moneyHow to Write Your Site Listing – Writing your site listing will be extremely important because you become an online salesman with a sales pitch because you want someone to purchase your product; in this case, your site. You always want to emphasize the strong selling points and if you need help, just look at some other ones that have already sold.

Other Ways of Generating Revenue – It’s funny but I still manage to find new ways of making money online just by reading site listings. For instance, what networks and programs people are using, how they’re converting, etc.

New Ways of Building Traffic Sources – I’m sure if you’re trying to start a brand new site that you don’t know too much on, reading a similar niche site listing will give you endless information on building targeted traffic.

Anyways, I hope you guys take some time to at least look through site listings just to see how you match up and who knows; maybe you’ll gain a few things from it.
