What cell phone should I get? There’s no trick to this question and this post probably won’t help you too much unless you’re looking for a new cell phone or possibly a new cell phone carrier in 2010. But since I’m in need of a new cell phone, I figured I would ask you guys for your opinions. Hey, you help me and I try to help you guys, right?
Matter of fact, if I end up choosing a phone you recommend, I’ll give you a 125×125 ad spot for one month FREE. But keep reading for details…
What Cell Phone Should I Get?
It seems as though I’ve been getting pickier and pickier on my decisions as the years go by. And that’s not just cell phones, it’s a lot of things. But here are the main things I’m looking for in a cell phone: internet access to surf any webpage anywhere I go, camera, video camera, text and the ability to actually talk on the cell phone.
More recently, I’ve been attracted to touchscreen features but for some reason I don’t want an iPhone. On top of that, if I talk on the phone, my greasy face will be pressed up against it. Though, the Android or something equivalent seems to catch my attention.
Below are just a couple of choices I managed pick out that caught my attention.
The thing I like about the Palm Pre is the slide-out keyboard feature, touchscreen, internet access, camera with flash as well as the 8GB internal storage for your music, pics, etc. Also, you can also view Word docs, PDF, PowerPoint so that would be helpful for my business aspects.
The biggest downfall that I noticed is the fact the Palm Pre does not have a video camera feature!
Samsung Moment
It seems as though I’m favoring the Samsung Moment because it’s like the Android but a little better. The things that I like are the slide-out keyword feature, touchscreen, internet access, corporate e-mail (outlook) which can hook up any of my sites e-mails, SD memory card, camera with zoom and video camera (but no flash)… also, it comes with an optical joystick.
The thing I’m not a big fan of is the size and weight. I think it’s slightly larger than the iPhone by half an inch. I usually like to carry my cell phone in my pocket and, well, it’s huge man!
HTC Phones
There are various HTC phones and they are similar to the other two phones mentioned here except smaller and with a few things missing. Though, the biggest thing is the cost difference is almost twice as expensive as the previous two mentioned.
Others
Any other recommendations? Also, I’m not a huge fan of the Blackberry’s for some reason. Don’t ask me why but I just don’t find it too appealing or comfortable for my needs. Also, keep in mind I’m currently with Sprint… and with that said…
What Cell Phone Provider Should I Get?
My contract is up with Sprint and even with all the bad reviews and things people say about them, I don’t mind them. They have good service and most of the bad reviews is because they have sucky customer service even though good customer service is what they try to preach.
On top of that, the rare times I had a dispute with them over the past few years, they mentioned to fix the problem at no additional cost and supply me with additional free service stuff. And even when I replaced my phone they didn’t charge me a dime (usually you have to pay the insurance fee or whatever for like $50?).
The main cell phone providers that I know of are T-Mobile, Verizon and AT&T. And honestly, I’m not a fan of either and I also heard bad things about all of them as well.
I would probably cross off AT&T already because the only reason why I would sign up with them is for the iPhone but since I’m not getting one, it’s an easy decision.
With T-Mobile, I heard the phone service isn’t that good but they have a lot of cool phones and features.
Verizon, well, I have them for my internet provider and home phone and I’m not really impressed either lol.
More than likely I’m going to stay with Sprint unless I’m convinced otherwise. What do you guys think?
Win a Free 125×125 Ad Spot for a Month
So, help me pick a cell phone and if I end up buying that cell phone, you could win a 125×125 ad spot here for one month. Of course, a lot of people may end up picking the same phone for me to get and if that happens, that group of people will go into a random drawing for the 125×125 ad spot.
Also, keep in mind that I do not want to advertise spam, porn, illegal or any site that will get me in trouble or whatever.
I’m sure there will be a fine more guidelines coming out but as of right now, I’m pretty open.
But… um… help? Please?

May I ask why you’re adamant about not getting an iPhone? I only ask because between T-Mobile, Verizon, and AT&T, you’re better off going with AT&T.
I was a T-Mobile member for 4 years, but after I moved closer to the beach, my calls all but dropped every time I turned my phone one. Additionally, T-Mobile awarded me hundreds of minutes per month because of my complaints regarding their horrible service.
Additionally, if you go with Verizon, your ability to surf the web and talk on the phone at the same time (e.g. you need to look something up while on the line) is not possible.
So if you want all the features you’re looking for in a phone, why not go with AT&T and then choose a different phone?
…and my vote is still for the iPhone. I get lost quite bit, and the built-in GPS is amazing! =)
I bought the Samsung Moment a couple days ago (used to have an Instinct) and I LOVE this phone. I love the fact that there are hundreds of applications available and most of them are free. I downloaded several last night for my preschool age child (ABC’s, shapes, colors) to keep her occupied during my dr appointment today. Worked great! The twitter app is cool. There are even guitar apps that I downloaded for free to help me with chords. There are free apps for wallpaper, ring tones, communication, finance, etc. I like the keyboard better than any other I’ve tried though the space bar sometimes doesn’t seem to recognize the push (unless it is just me getting used to using this keyboard coming from just a touch screen that my Instinct was). I have to say that out of all the Sprint phones we’ve had (we have five lines and have had sprint for several years so we’ve had quite a few phones), this one is the best so far. The only other thing I’d want to change about it, and hope to see on a future phone, is a 5.0 megapixel camera like the HTC has (that didn’t have QWERTY slideout keyboard so I nixed it from my list). The 3.2 does a good job, better than any of our other phones, but I am a picture taker so I am looking forward to seeing higher megapixels in the future.
How about Nokia E72? I am using one now and I am absolutely happy with it. I don’t so so much game, recreation stuff on mobile phone, but checking mails, occasional facebook, IM, etc. E72 serves me great, I am very happy with the QWERTY keypad, so easy to use. There is front camera, so there is no problem if you need to do conference call.
When it comes to phones I pretty much don’t know a whole lot. I am just starting to get into them because I realize some benefits they could provide.
So instead, I helped you in a different way.

Good luck!
Hands down, no second choice, Android Phone all the way. I am writing to you on my HTC (T-Mobile serviced) My Touch, which I used today to write 7 straight posts on my site while working earlier today.
The main reason is because of the Android application called “WP to go”, which runs a mobile version of the Wordpress post software. I have used this application since I owned a HTC G-1, but got rid of because of poor battery life.
The Samsung Moment is a great choice if a keyboard is a must, but there are trade offs with phones that have integrated keyboards. Samsung phones have always felt cheap, but not this one it has the second best keyboard to the G-1, but no trackball.
The DROID on Verizon also is a every option a Keyboard, WP to go and a great camera. The downside is Verizon’s 3G service, which I personally believe is overrated and no better the T-Mobile’s.
If you are into Social Networking the Motorola Cliq (T-Mobile service) is by far the best phone that does everything the DROID and Moment does. Plus 1, it has “Motorola Blur” and keeps Myspace, Facebook and Twitter all on one screen. The down side is T-mobile’s service which is good to average and does not have a trackball.
Bottom line is you will not go wrong with a Android phone and there getting better with each release.
Small preferences should make your final decision like Trackballs, Keyboard comfort and the quality of the service in your area.
The Nexus one will also be released shortly and the G-2 may be the best to come and as a Blogger I will always own the best one for business and posting.
My vote is with Verizon. Mileage may vary. In the Bay Area of California, Verizon has the absolute best coverage. I’ve used Sprint, AT&T, and T-Mobile. All are inferior — where I live.
That said, Wirefly is offering a free HTC Droid right now (just got the email). I don’t know if this is a public offer, so if you need the info, let me know.

Hands down, you simply must get a palm pre plus!
It launches Jan 25 on Verizon. Its double the memory (16 GB) double the RAM (its even faster than before!)
It has a camera flash as you want and they will be updating it officially in Feb with a video capture feature.
Plus the touchstone wireless charging dock is very cool.

I like android too (I have a G1 running the latest Motorola droid firmware) however, the key to getting the full potential out of android is being able to play with the firmware. If your prepared to do some reading and hacking, an android phone is a good bet. A good website for all tips/hacks for all HTC phones is:

How can you recommend a Palm anything? The Palm Pri was released with such hype only to be a generation behind the iPhone and G-1 in terms of options and it came out months after both phones. You needed toothpicks for fingers to type on the keys and the operating system was weak.
Palm made a great phone, but now makes sparkly last generation phones. Smart phone is Android or iPhone and your limited to one carrier on the iPhone. Android is out on every carrier now, plus a minimum of two option for phones.

BTW, if your going to stay with Sprint and do not like the Moment go with the “Hero”. No keyboard, but the on screen one is solid.
If you don’t like it you can download “Better keyboard” for $3 and it makes a big difference for those with stubby fingers like myself.

How about Nokia N97 or N97 mini? Its has touch screen + camera + keyboard. Looks same as the HTC and Samsung one.

RE: Agent Deepak, the N97 is a great phone, but who wants to pay $500.00 on a phone you can not insure or get help with if you have a problem. Especially when the phone is only a few months ahead of the curb, but can only be brought on E-bay or a retailer online.
There are no guarantees with unlocked phones, except that they are expensive.

Have you used a palm pre? or any other cellphone with a physical keyboard for that matter?
Yes the keyboard is small, so is the phone. I would take any physical keyboard over an on screen. This is coming from experience of using multiple htc phones, andriod, wm and yes, the palm pre.
A generation behind in terms of options? You mean wifi, bluetooth, 3g, GPS? Please explain.
I was recommending the 2nd generation pre which addresses most concerns of the original pre.
BTW andriod is an operating system, not an actual phone.
@Matt Kostan yes I have used a Palm Pre, it has small keys and NO ON SCREEN KEYBOARD if turned on the side. Learn to read.
Behind in terms of applications Aps are third or forth (Blackberry storms may even be better) best on the market right now and some of the most simple aps like Facebook are bare bones. Does a WordPress application even exist for the Pre? If it doesn’t Android market and iPhone ap store had them months ago.
Android phones I know Android is not a phone, which is why I picked the Samsung moment if a keyboard is a must for Dat or a Hero if he likes the onscreen keyboard.
If I was buying a new phone myself personally it would be a Nexus one or iPhone, but if you read through Dat’s post carefully he said the iPhone was not a option so I figured the carriers were a concern, eliminating both phones. Since Dat didn’t seem to excited about AT&T or T-Mobile.
Palm Pre is garbage and like I said a generation behind, the keyboard is terrible and I would rather have a on screen board then that one.

I don’t really care on what my cellphone looks lie. For me having it is just a luxury. I think that I would go for simple one that I could use most of the times.
That is for me, of course, I know that your opinion is different.

Verizon probably has the best coverage and they have the HTC phones and the newer Droid phone.
I’ve already responded with my vote (Samsung Moment) but wanted to correct something in your original post about the Moment. It DOES have a flash for the camera. You have the option of having it on or not too. I LOVE the Moment.

Thanks everyone for your opinions. I’m still debating and I was favoring the Moment a little bit until I read all these reviews with how the battery life really, REALLY sucks. And now I’m hearing better things about the HTCs…

Hi jay,
I recommend the Samsung Omnia 2 i8000…they say it’s the equivalent of iphone. It’s very nice and there’s a lot of features. Maybe you have to check it out.
Who could anticipated that Cell Phones were going to stop beign just cell phones? It’s amazing all the things you can do now with them. What I’ve noticed is that these days it’s becoming a very hard task for Nokia, Motorola and Samsung manufacturers to create Phones that can compete with the iPhone and Blackberry.
