I Will Delete Your Comments And Mark It as Spam

quit spamming

There seems to be people that just comment to get on my top commentators list, well, don’t spam or else I will delete your comments and mark them as spam. And in the long run, you’ll probably be marked as spam in the akismet system so whoever has that plugin installed, your comments will end up in the spam filter on every site you comment on.

I know all the tricks and tactics of commenting to get backlinks and get on top commentators lists and I let a lot of things slide here but people seem to continue to take advantage of it. If you don’t have anything useful to add as a comment, you simply don’t need to. I mean, most readers and subscribers don’t even comment to begin with.

But again, I know a lot of people comment a lot just to get on the top commentators list. So, what happens if I remove that from my site? Will most of you guys just stop commenting?

Anyways, here are a few things that people do as comments that will probably get deleted and marked as spam:

Copying and Pasting My Own Text As a Comment - How thoughtful of a comment is that? Really? If you just copy and paste text from my own post as your entire comment or for most of your comment, your comment is worthless.

spammerGeneric Phrases - A lot of people just use generic phrase like “Great Post!” and “Thanks for sharing this info to all your readers!” Those are just a few comments that people tend to say just to get a comment in. Those generic comments doesn’t help anyone and I’ve seen them way too many times as spam.

Matter of fact, I bet someone will leave a comment like “this is a really nice post! Thanks for sharing!” on this particular post. I mean, people already leave those posts on my free Blogger template posts.

“Insert Here” Type Text - A lot of people have generic lines they want to say and they try to trick people by including a sentence or their title within that generic line. Well, I let a lot of these things slide by but these are the same people who do everything that forces me to write this post.

An example of this would be some that says “This is a good post related to I Will Delete Your Comments And Mark It as Spam. It is really nice info and good article.”

So, if you didn’t notice, I simply had a generic line in which I could insert the title or topic of the post just so it might seem less spammy. Well, guess again, that’s still spamming.

I’m sure there are other ways of spamming my comments that I don’t appreciate but those are the few that I literally just seen in my comments. If you guys continue to do it, its not very hard to remove you from the top commentators list. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate all the thoughtful comments but I really hate spam.

And guess what? Everything I mentioned above is spamming. I let things slide before but I’m going to be a little stricter about it.

Thanks!

I think for the most part is is really easy to tell a part from a spammer vs a legitimate commenter. I’ve seen some people leave 5 comments in a row, in 5 different articles within a span of 2 minute, pretty obvious that was spam! And you are probably right, someone will eventually leave the generic “good post” comment, lol.

    Till then,

    Jean

But what if after reading your post, it really is a ‘great post.’ How do we let you know without looking like a spammer? Should I hit you up on Twitter? :)

Ya, all you people who spam need to be shot. Well maybe not that bad. Jay, I get comments all the time too. My blog used to be dofollow but I went ahead and removed that because of the comment spam.

What is even worse than those small phrases is when someone comments on the post with a generic phrase and then tries to leave a link too that has nothing to do with the post lol! I delete those right away. But I never mark them as spam. Maybe I will start doing that too.

Anyway, how is the theme development project going?

This one is for all the spammers, “If you are trying to SPAM, you have landed on to a wrong BLOG.” I would say that this article was a learning piece for me. “How to comment” or “How Not to Comment”

Jay, its a shame that you had to make such a post as this. I do know what you are saying as I’ve seen commentators which I know where only posted for the backlink.

What they don’t get is a backlink from a blog is not all that helpful. There are a lot better ways to spend their time building links.

Comment spam is going one important factor for us. The time that we have to spend in our work, we have to spend them on deleting spam comment. Due to spam comment my blog ranking also gone decrease when I did not moderate my comment. So I also request all people never to spam on comment.

I am not sure if the right thing to do to acused reader as a spammer if the have posted comment like “Great Post”. Sometime, they read the article an wanted to comment but just don’t no how to comment.

And it is to harsh for label commentor as spammer on Akimist. I think spammer should be identified when people start commenting heavily e.g 5 comment in a minute as what used tires has said above.

Anyway this is just my humble opinion.

Hehehe …just kidding. I think you have made a smart move. These spammers don’t even read to see the content. However, strong measures such as yours are really crucial for us & our serious readers to feel important & significant when they make the comments.

I believe Blog Commenting must be practiced as a constructive activity instead of commenting to just gain a few backlinks or geting to the Top Commentators list. I hate spamming and have never ever practiced it till date. You must rather be harsh on such spammers as you have said. Your blog gives dofollow links and also has a top commentators plugin so this may attract a few spammers but a few strict steps from your side will surely deter them. You have done a good job of warning before taking action.

Most comment spam is self serving claptrap that needs to be deleted, and doing so is just the cost of doing business in the blogosphere.

I’ve been a victim of spammers too. They swarm the internet finding victims on where to post their links. But good thing there’s Akismet plugins for wordpress, it blocks spammers and all we have to do is to mark them as spam.

let me ask a stupid question. I see keywords and link at the bottom of the comment(like the one above “Glenn´s last blog ..FarmVille Baby Elephant”). Is that some soft of template or plugin or they manually entered?

It seems like people start to take advantage of the top commentator plugin and start to leave shorter comments as time goes on.

Good idea to start deleting spam comments.

@webpageLottery, that link that you see is due to the fact that this blog runs whats called “CommentLuv” which pulls your last blog post, and links to it alongside your comment.

    I hope that explanation helps.

    Till then,
