Are Bloggers Getting Burnt Out From Blogging?

burnt-out

I haven’t been updating as much as I used to but I still manage to get a few posts in every week on DatMoney. And since I started as an internet entrepreneur I came up with a lot of friends who started around the same time, have similar stats and so on… but the difference is, I still manage to keep my blog updated.

I understand that there are other projects that have priority, maybe a day job is taking over your life or there are some personal issues but it looks like more and more blogs that I came up with are slowly fading away. Some blogs have been sold, some barely update their blog once a month and some I question “what happened?”

Great and Helpful Posts vs. “Eh” Posts

I’m sure everyone would rather take great, useful and helpful type posts over anything. And I was once told (maybe not directly) that it’s better to write great posts less frequently than to write “eh” posts daily.

Quality over quantity. And yes, I definitely agree with that point. But of course, its the blog owners decision on what they want to write about.

But in the situation I’m talking about with blogs that aren’t as active, they don’t write useful posts once a month. Instead, they seem to just write a post just so they can keep their blog breathing… with a respirator.

What Happened to These Blogs?

I don’t mean to put these blogs out there but I was a big fan until it slowly started to fade away. Again, I’m sure they’re off to bigger and better things that probably prevent them from updating but come on, at least let your readers know what’s going on so they’re not just anxiously waiting for… nothing.

But here are some blogs that I used to follow regularly that have just faded away for whatever reason.

TheNetFool – Was a big fan of Jim’s and still am, though, his blog is slowly fading away. His most recent post “Whew! Close One There!” lets us know that his domain name actually expired and he renewed it late so anyone could have purchased it.

Honestly, if I knew, I would have! :P But besides that post, the last one prior was almost two months ago!

Bloggernoob – Was a big fan because of the straightforward and always hilarious noob, whom knew how to make money online. But the blog hasn’t been updated since the end of August and the post before that was in the beginning of June.

What’s going on?

Make Money Dynamo – I was excited when this blog started by our friend Jason and his partner. I was also excited with the great and useful posts they supplied. I was even okay with the fact that they would only update with the best tips and nothing else… and it would be only once a month.

But um, it hasn’t been updated since May. We just went through the end of spring, the entire summer and we’re in the fall and still no post.

The University Kid - Speaking of our friend Jason, remember when he sold TheUniversityKid? Well, quite honestly, it hasn’t been the same since. It started off pretty good with the new owner and I was willing to give it a chance but slowly there have been less posts (maybe 1 or 2 a month) and a lot of them are just interviews.

If I wanted only interviews, I would continue to watch Jay Leno. But seriously, in my eyes, the content just haven’t been the same since the new owner took over. Nothing against him but I guess I had higher expectations.

Uberaffiliate – Uber was definitely an uber affiliate with very helpful posts for people getting into affiliate marketing. But I guess he completely burnt out on blogging and went the Twitter route instead.

It doesn’t matter to him because he continues to make hundreds of thousands from affiliate marketing but damn, I definitely miss those witty and funny posts with great content on top of it.

Carlocab – I followed Carl’s blog for a little while but just stopped for whatever reason. When I did go back, it definitely wasn’t the same. Matter of fact, you’ll probably see more guest posts than anything.

Carl’s last post was at the beginning of September. If you guys don’t know, he highlights being number 1-3 for the popular search term “make money online” but he’s just slowly falling off. As you can see from the screenshot below, he fell to the 8th spot on my search for it.

Carl Ocab Make Money Online

I wonder what he’s going to be highlighting once he falls out of the top 10 from that search term?

There are a lot of other blogs that I used to follow but they just fell off completely or in some instances, the blog is just no longer there for whatever reason so there’s no point in linking to them.

So, Are Bloggers Burnt Out From Blogging?

In this niche, a lot of people find out the hard way that its not easy making it or continue to make money from it. Though, I do understand that people have other priorities so its not necessarily the fact that they’re burnt out but they probably just don’t have the same time to dedicate like they once did.

Personally, I have other revenue sources that bring in more money so I tend to focus on what works for me and try to build off of that first. I think that’s part of the reason why I’m not posting everyday like I used to so I definitely understand.

But bloggers being burnt out… well, I know some definitely are. And if you’re in the MMO niche, it’s over saturated as is so a lot of people give up when they know its not as easy as it looks.

Anyways, I hope none of you guys just quit out of the blue. I know there must be good reasons but just take a break instead of overwhelming yourself. The whole point is to avoid getting burnt out.

So, do you guys know any other blogs that have faded fast that you used to visit regularly?

I can attest to experiencing blogging burnout. Not necessarily on the newest blog I created, but certainly on what started out as a great and popular idea, but soon lost its motion as I started to get encumbered with business and new clients.

Soon enough I saw my blogging attempts becoming less frequent, and then non-existent for a month…then two! …I know, “shame on me,” but when life hits you and you have so many projects on your desk, blogging will sooner or later take a backseat or at least become a silent passenger until spoken to. =)

Your point is really noticeable. On the blogsphere I see lots of blog that do not update until a month even. I subscribe lots of blog and I have got a few updating of blog.

I also agree what you say that quality of blog is better than quantity. I do not like to post some ordinary post on my blog that all people write same thing. I like to write some different that my reader get help by reading my article.

If there’s one guiding principle to writing good post, this is it, and it isn’t as easy as it sounds. The temptation to turn writing into a numbers game is tantalizing and seductive. Most of us fall for it, especially when we’re just starting out. There’s also an element of competition involved. For example, many online marketing forums will have multiple threads at any given time with members bragging about how many posts they can write in a day. The notion that it’s all about quantity seeps into a lot of minds this way. You have to work hard to avoid letting this take hold.

Writing a good, quality post takes time. It requires effort and discipline. In other words, it’s not ’sexy.’ It’s hard, ‘nose to the grindstone’ work. But the motivation comes from understanding that the commitment to authoring only good post pays large dividends over the long haul. You will gain an impressive reputation as a writer. Your site(s) will gain authority in your niche. Your articles will be picked up by scores of others (along with your links). Your RSS feed will be posted to more blogs.

I don’t think so. because for many people it’s a source of making money on-line.

Those people are all interested in making money online. Sooner or later you come to realise that blogging about making money online is one of the least effective ways of making money online that there is. The clever blogger takes what he’s learnt from this uber competitive niche and then translates that into a market where there are actual consumers interested in buying real products and not some half assed e-book (real value $99, I promise).

Blogging about real things is where the future is :)

Thanks for the mention mate… :)

I took a few months off IM – perhaps being burnt out (of IM as a whole, not just blogging) was a part of it, but also wanted to enjoy life. Still young, what’s the point of making the cash if you don’t use it eh. :p

As for the blogs… I’ve never really liked the MMO niche as a whole, but I loved the relationships I built through blogging in it. To be honest, I liked blogging itself, but couldn’t be bothered link building, SEO etc for a niche that I knew I wouldn’t be trying to make money in (once you’ve built up that relationship of ‘friends’… it’s almost impossible for you to sell them something, at least for me). Perhaps the problem was being too friendly.

Setting up my IM office at the moment but once I get enough employees to do all the grunt work for me I’ll be back. How long that takes, I dunno, as I’ve never been one to do things quick.

Hit me up on IM next time you’re on, we’ll catch up ;)

Paul B nailed it. Pretty soon you find easier ways of making money and you only need to update your blog when you feel like it.

But the whole idea of the “day job” with bloggers always appalled me, if you’re not earning money online full time why are you even blogging about it?

I also read theuniversitykid.com but I noticed it’s not updating anymore. I don’t think they ran out of topics to write or so, maybe they are just doing something or maybe investing on something else, i dunno.

But yeah, those blogs are great but as time pass by, they also age and fades. Proves that blog also passes out LOL.
