DatMoney.com is Officially Up for Sale!

Friday, August 21st, 2009 | Ramblings, Site Flipping with 20 Comments

Honestly, I didn’t want to put DatMoney up for sale but a few things have come up recently. I figured I’d address the issue because a few of you guys have contacted me on instant messenger about this already.

You can check out the auction at Flippa right now if you want. I only listed it for 14 days because I’m in a time crunch.

So, Why Am I Selling DatMoney?

Not exactly my first choice. And I know you guys have probably heard that from every single online entrepreneur that has put their site up for sale. But for me, the main reason is the fact that my day job isn’t going as well as I would have hoped so I’m trying to cover my tracks as a backup plan. If I can sell DatMoney, the money will cover me for a while.

Of course, I’m hoping it will sell for the reserve or BIN because if it doesn’t, I may have to reconsider simply because 1) I just don’t want to sell it and 2) there’s no point of selling it if the money doesn’t cover me for the next few months.

In addition, if I do end up leaving my job, I’ll have to take some time to figure out what I will be doing with my life. Maybe apply for some new jobs. Maybe work harder on my online business. Maybe do illegal things on the street. Haha… okay, that last one isn’t an option for me. But I’ll probably have less time to dedicate to DatMoney.

Anyone Interested or Know Someone Who’d be Interested?

Some people will agree or disagree with my prices. And I know everyone has their story behind what it should and shouldn’t be. But I value my site and I know the potential it has. Matter of fact, my best from this blog alone was probably like $1,000. So, if you multiply that by the standard 10x, that’s still less than the BIN.

But does anyone know someone who’d be interested in taking over DatMoney? Of course, I’d be willing to help out as much as they would need until they get situated and comfortable.

You can see the various ways that I’ve made money from DatMoney at the auction. Though, I didn’t include every single aspect, I was just trying to show the potential just based off of a few examples.

If someone helps me sell the blog at the BIN price, I will give you 2.5% of the price. That may not sound like a lot but I’ll be giving you the 2.5% that the buyer would be paying. If it sells for the BIN, you’d get over $200.

Anyways, I’m getting pretty sad just talking about it. Don’t worry, I’m going to try to get as many things done before and if the site sells. And yes, that includes an eBook, getting out all the passwords, etc, etc.

And don’t get sad just yet, I may not even sell the site if it doesn’t hit the reserve. :D

    Woah,woah.

    Hold up.

No. Take the auction down right now and go sit in the corner. Just no. No.

Also, what does this mean will happen with the $100 a day Adsense follow up post?

Ralph – The only way I would sell it is if the reserve price has been met. But like I said, due to the difficulties at my day job, I need to have a financial backup plan. I’ll still be working online and stuff and maybe start a more personal blog with some occasional tips but I just need to cover my tracks if something does happen. Hope you understand.

As for the $100/day follow up, I’ll be answering a bunch of questions I have been asked since the original post. And try to cover it all in the follow up. But I’m trying to do an eBook with step-by-step details with examples and the whole nine so there is a complete guide for you guys.

    This was a surprise!
I guess we all get strapped for cash at some point or another and do what we must to get through it.
Membership mentoring is becoming more popular – maybe you could do a follow-up to your e-book with something like that?
Whatever you decide to do next, I’m sure you’ll do well with it :)

Jay, Sorry to hear this as I sort of like your writing. But as someone who recently was laid off I know the advantage of having something in the bank.

I’m not totally sure I’m interested, but I may be and have the cash to pay the BIN right now. You said the best was 1K a month from this blog, but what is it currently earning? That’s not really clear from the post or the auction. You can just email me if you don’t want to put this on a public forum.

Also would the site have to be moved from your hosting? Or is the hosting account included?

I will say one thing which does not help me but may help you. If this site is consistantly earning, then you may want to rethink selling it. You’ve built up a nice little niche here and its easier to expand an estabished site to where its earning more than it is to start over. 8K may get you by for a while, but I’m fairly certain you could have this one earning that too every month.

    Thanks
    Bruce

    Jay,

DO NOT SELL! You are making $400 a month. That means to will make $4800 a year, just from doing nothing. Typically the income should increase over time as well so you will make ever more. Even if you do get 8K from selling it then I still don’t think it is worth it.

    What’s your day job?

Edie – Thanks! You and me will still be working together, don’t worry about that!

Bruce – I’ll talk to you via instant messenger tomorrow about the details. Don’t get me wrong, I’ll still be doing my online stuff but I just need a financial backup if things fall through. Who knows, if you buy DatMoney, I may manage the site for you for a while… I’m sure I’ll start another site, but deep down, it’ll be hard getting rid of DatMoney… I mean, it’s how I built my rep online!

Monthly – It all depends on how much work I put into the site. And because I’ve had less time to actually work on it then the revenue usually goes down with it. I mean, I literally haven’t promoted my site in 2009. But I work an office job at a big university.

Sherry – I have a lot of sites but I don’t have another entrepreneur one. I may consider starting a new one that’s a little more personal but we’ll wait to see what happens.

Melvin – I may not even sell DatMoney. I just put it up for sale but if it doesn’t hit the reserve or BIN then I won’t sell it. Again, I just want that financial backup just incase my day job doesn’t work out… and trust me, it’s not going to work out.

I understand that sometimes you have to let things go in order to be able to achieve other things in your life.

I’ve had to close down and sell sites which I was really attached to before so I know how you feel.

Good luck with the auction and your future projects.

Wow Jason, this definitely does come as a surprise to me that you are selling your blog. I hope you achieve the final price that you are seeking from selling your blog. Hopefully the new owner retains the great content that you have provided us so far. But another part of me does want you to stay =D

    Till then,

It really hurts to hear that one of the blogs I admire and follow is up for sale. No doubt you are having genuine problems but please reconsider your decision. I just checked your auction at Flippa. Please think of the profit that you can make out of this blog 2 to 3 years down the road – may be you can even quit your day job. We all have to make small sacrifices in the present to make our futures bright and better!
