I’m sure you guys have seen plenty of your favorite blogs being sold at some point in time to a new blog owner; but my question is: do you give them a chance?
I’ve been blogging for quite sometime now and I’ve seen quite a few of the blogs I visit regularly being sold. Just to name a few: JohnCow, Bloggin-Ads, Slyvisions and now, even Theuniversitykid was recently sold to a new owner.
I’m sure a lot of you guys are hesitate on if the new blog owner will live up to the hype of the previous owner. Or maybe you might not like their writing style or what they have to offer you? But when it comes down to it, personally, I at least give them a chance to prove themselves.
See, you can’t compare a new owner with the former owner simply because they are not the same person. So, if you have big expectations then you’re probably in for a rude awakening.
I used to think that the new owner should keep the quality of posts just about the same as the former owner to keep the loyal readers and subscribers satisfied. But as I thought about it, I think I’d start being completely biased with the new owner if I kept comparing him to the old one.
I subscribed to quite a few blogs but only a few by e-mail. I actually prefer visiting the blog whenever I get a chance but that’s just me. There have been a lot of new blog owners that I enjoy, there have been some that annoy me but arguably have some good quality posts and there’s a few that I stopped visiting because they have no idea what they are talking about.
I’m not going to name names but I’m sure you guys have had the same type of feelings as me at some point in time.
What I’m saying is I at least give the new blog owners a chance to catch my attention, keep me as a reader, prove to me they are worth it. I don’t have a set time on how long they have to proof it to me. It’s not like I’m sitting there waiting for a post to say “um, no thanks!” and unsubscribe.
It all depends but sometimes it only takes a few posts to tell me how they are going to be or sometimes it takes longer. For instance, I write some very helpful posts and good quality but I admit there are some posts that are just for conversation. Or maybe for venting? Who knows?
But I guess I’d like to ask you guys: do you give new owners of a recently purchased blog a chance at all?

yeah one should give a chance to new owner too . because each person have different styles and everybody need soem time to prove them self
I do if I feel the seller took care to find the right buyer. Trust the original and trust his/her judgment on the new as well.

I dont know if rules are tough but i feel one should be given chance, without knowing you cant make decision
I don’t judge anyone. I give everyone a chance to shine and maybe I can learn more from this new owner.

I belive in giving chance to new, because Everyone is not same, Trust and judge new one, Hard to make decison without knowing
This is a tough one, I’ve just seen too many blogs go to hell in a handbasket once they were sold.
Link Building Bible is a classic example, what was once a great resource which I looked forward to reading, has just gone to rubbish since it was sold.
sure i give the chance to new one because every people is not same.i think if they will work hard they can do it…
This is a touchy subject but one I’m glad to see put out there for discussion. Since I am the new owner of MomsCashBlog now since last April, I can tell you all from first hand experience that it can be brutal for the new owner at the beginning. I was received well at first except for maybe 2-3 guys who I think had the hots for the previous owner and maybe will tell you that they liked her content though. You know like I only buy Playboy to read the articles!lol I did find it ironic though that there were several “Mom Bloggers” who to this day will not accept me whether it’s my content or not. These women are just closed minded and will not accept anything new. I just find it funny that these people must forget or ignore the fact that the prior owners of these blogs…decided for whatever reason to sell their blog, no one begged them to sell or even knew that they were going to sell. There is still one Mom Blogger who every once in awhile will comment when I write a post, and will always have to mention “the prior owner would not have handled it this way or the prior owner this or that”. I guess the only thing I can say or tell those people are I’m not going to copy how someone else wrote and I have my own style and if you don’t like it then maybe you have to come to turns with the fact that there was a reason the person sold the blog. So after getting that all off my chest (thank you btw) I say yes you should give the new owner of a recently purchased blog a chance. Thanks JJ
