Just the other day I was checking out some of my Google Analytics stats and one of my blogs was getting tons of visitors and pageviews from Zimbio. I had completely forgot about Zimbio and how I used it to promote blog content and increase pageviews automatically.
I figured I would address it here because I’m going to start implementing these tactics for my other sites, particularly new ones, and you guys should too.
How to Use Zimbio to Promote Blog Content Automatically
Well, if you guys don’t know about Zimbio, they are a search engine friendly social networking site that let’s you use interactive Wikizines to promote your content. And it’s pretty damn easy setting yourself up for it as well.
First, simply go to Zimbio.com and create a new account (if you haven’t already done so) and towards the end of your registration, they will ask if you want to submit your blog (and or blog RSS Feeds).
Of course, you definitely want to.
Now, you can submit your articles to various Wikizines if you want manually but there is also an “auto-import” option which finds a Wikizine related to your post and submits it for you.
Personally, on particular blogs of mine, I just chose “auto-import” simply because I don’t want to constantly check back to manually import select articles.
If you wanted to submit it manually, they will take all your articles from your feeds and import it and you can search and select whatever Wikizine that fits your topic. And if you can’t find one, you can always just create a brand new one as well.
In addition, if you have images, videos and whatever else within the post, they will import those for you in their images and videos sections so you can additional visitors as well.
The Pros and Cons
The good part is your articles, keywords, images, etc will be highly ranked in search engines, plus, you’ll get the luxury of Zimbio users visiting your site as well.
It’s also extremely easy to do and automated for the lazy people (like me).
The downfall is the fact that if you chose “auto-import” it may submit to a Wikizine that you may not exactly have wanted. For instance, if you wrote a post on basketball or the Boston Celtics, it may put your article under a specific person on the Celtics like Kevin Garnett or something. That might not be what the article is about but he does play for that team.
My Opinions and Thoughts
I really like Zimbio because of the automated system they have and since it’s less work on my behalf, then that’s even better. And for those you guys that are worried about duplicate content, you’ll only get penalized if the duplicate content is within your own site. (I’ll write a future post on that).
Also, I haven’t implemented DatMoney with Zimbio because I feel it probably works best for blogs related to entertainment, sports, movies, music, etc. I may consider adding this blog to it as well just for a test but I don’t think the outcome will be that great.
But who knows until we actually test it out, right?
Well, let me know what you think and if you have tried about Zimbio.

Yep, that is some interesting stuff. I do have an entertainment blog. Maybe I give that one a try.

I use Zimbio for my site http://www.DjRyB.com which is a music, sports and entertainment blog and it works really well in regards to driving traffic.
You can even track the most popular articles through FeedBurner if you have that set up for your RSS feeds. It will give you the clicks and impressions you receive from Zimbio so you have an idea of what is most popular and working well outside of your own site.
It kind of stinks that not every person will come check out your site after reading an article on Zimbio, but it’s worth the free promotion and any of the new visitors you do actually receive. I highly recommend trying it for about a month or two to get a feel for the overall traffic. You need some time for the best articles to trickle through the system to see if it will work for your particular content.
Been using this a lot lately to promote a few blog posts. It really is a great source of traffic for keywords with little competition.
It ranks high up there with Digg.

Not sure that my last comment made it through but I would reiterate that it’s great for promotion. I have an entertainment, sports and music blog (www.DjRyB.com) and it has brought me a ton of traffic over the past few months. Not every article will work out so well but some will drive hundreds of clicks through to your site per day potentially. That’s very good in my opinion. Give it a shot!

This is pretty good. I am currently using social networking sites for getting traffic. I’ll try Zimbio this time. Lets see what is the difference between the two. Hope for the best.
Seeing that I run a music/entertainment blog, I think I’m gonna take a look and consider Zimbio. For the most part, it seems from your article that outside of the initial setup, its pretty much automated, and thus it wouldn’t sense not to try it out.
Out of curiosity, how has your bounce rate been from users coming from Zimbio?

Is there an issue of duplicate content here? I was using Zimbio then got concerned that I might be penalized for doing so Google.

Always nice to find new Search Engine friendly social networking sites, thanks Jay!
Mark has a good question though about the duplicate content – you’re going to want to make sure that the search engines are indexing your content before they index it on Zimbio.
Interesting… I think there are no cons, I mean – if you put it you just earn.
Stu and Mark made a good point, what do you suggest?

already use it. Really helpful.
Zimbio may not seem like a social bookmarking site at first glance but delving further into this Wiki based site I found that indeed it works like a social bookmark for individual posts. Zimbio will gain exposure to individual posts from the blog sites you list with them by categorizing each post into a separate Wiki. That is really what some social bookmark site do, gain you more exposure to your posts and sites.
you know as i can see there is a risk with zimbo if you’re all post get index there you’re posts become copied onece and you know how Google treat copy content so i dont wanna get my ass in there. Guess you ppls aslo won’t be the first at the end of the Google search
Be carefull though, your articles in zimbio may outrank your original articles in your blog, especially if your blog is new. This is because in the eyes of Google, zimbio is more authority site than your blog.
