Road to Making $60,000/Year – The Plan

Wednesday, February 18th, 2009 | Make Money Online with 16 Comments

When I posted my official introduction to reaching my goal of $60,000/year online, a lot of people were curious on how I was going to achieve it and what my plans are of accomplishing that feat. Well, here is a simple outline on my plans and what I’m going to try to do.

Before I continue, my problem isn’t the fact that I don’t know what I’m doing, it’s overcoming the procrastination and actually taking action. I think that’s the same problem most of us have when it comes to making money online. All these things are nothing new to any of you guys but it’s all about actually executing these plans and spend your time wisely.

For instance, I have been making a steady $1,500-$2,000 monthly and this is with very, very minimal work. Think about if I actually put effort into it; I think I should, at the very least, double that goal.

Now all of it isn’t laziness and procrastination, some of it is simply the fact that I don’t have time because I’m taking on too many projects at once. Though, I shouldn’t use that as an excuse, I should have better time management skills than what I’m presenting.

Anyways, let’s get to the plan.  (Warning: This is pretty long)

Focusing and Time Management

time-managementUsually when I’m working, I’m multitasking while trying to do 3-4 things at once. Of course, depending on what I do, sometimes I get it done while other times I don’t completely finish and then I take an extended break on that project.

In addition, I usually have my instant messenger on which is a big no no, especially when people actually send you messages with interesting conversations and you get sidetracked.

And one bad part about my multi-tasking is the fact that I play online poker for real money and I always have a table open. Well, no more of that when I’m working!

I’m going to finally setup a bunch of sites in which I have domain names for. I have over 30 domains and only less than a third of that are actually setup with websites.

Preparations

preparation

It takes sometime depending on what you do to make money online. Some people are good enough to make thousands in one day but they are already prepared for it.

Me, I could do that but I’m more focused on the long run.

For instance, if I’m site flipping, I build these little niche sites and I just let it sit there and gain revenue without doing anything. Once it hits its peak, that’s when I would determine the selling price. Plus, I’ll have the revenue and traffic proof to back me up.

Besides finally building these sites, there are quite a few other preparations I would have to do and they include (but not limited to):

eBook – I’ve been trying to finish a couple of eBooks for the longest time but I haven’t been able to. Once I do, I will give away the first one to my e-mail subscribers and then the second one will probably charge like $5-$10 or something.

Building Backlinks – You guys already know from my little free banner design project, well, backlinks is the key when you are focusing on getting lots of organic traffic. And I know exactly how to convert them into clickers or product buyers.

There are a bunch of other preparations but I’m tired right now and can’t fully think.

What Exactly I’m Going to Do to Make Money Online

dollar sign moneyAgain, it’s nothing new but it’s all about executing and going with what works. But here’s a small breakdown of how I’m going to make money consistently by putting some effort into it.

My Blogs

A lot of people don’t know but I actually try to maintain like 4-5 blogs regularly. Again, actual “blogs” not just websites. Of course, I don’t update them everyday but maybe a few times a week. Besides this blog, I primarily use Adsense as my source of revenue because I target keywords that are pretty good per click.

I have one blog that barely gets 30-40 visitors a day but each click I get averages over a dollar which isn’t too bad.

But also I’ll still be selling private ads, writing an occasional paid review, marketing a product, etc.

eBook

As I just mentioned earlier, I plan on coming out with an eBook which I will eventually sell. It won’t be anything drastic in price but let me finish writing it first and we’ll go from there.

But I’ll give you guys a clue, I will be including website URLs so you guys can check out the sites and possibly rinse and repeat from those examples. :D

Niche Sites

I have a lot of niche sites that are just sitting there getting organic traffic, making money from Adsense and I’m not doing much right now. I’ve been rinsing and repeating the process and when I feel as though it hits it’s peak, I’m going to sell… which leads to my next method.

Site Flipping

I’ve only sold a few websites here and there privately and nothing drastic in sale like tens of thousands of dollars or anything. But comparing how much time I spend on building the site to how much I sell it for, the price per hour is definitely worth it!

Membership Sites

I’m sure you guys are aware that I’ve started a membership site with a business partner because it’s a good way of getting recurring revenue. Well, once we get that underway, then it’s all about the rinse and repeat process but in different niches (which we already have covered).

And after a few months, we’ll probably sell it as well. At least that’s our intentions for it, no, actually, that’s our “plan.”

Banner Designs

Surprisingly, I’m still getting requests and I’m still working with long-term business associates that love my work but more importantly, they love my prices. Lol!

I’m actually going to be setting up an entire website for it but I haven’t gotten to it yet. I have the domain name and website setup but I don’t have any content on it.

woman-playing-pokerOnline Poker

Yes, I play online poker but it’s just like work if you think about it. But also, I do some affiliate marketing with them too so I’m getting some referrals. I think I setup my plan to get paid $90/referral but they have to “qualify” for me to get paid.

Article Writing

Again, another surprise but a couple of people contacted me asking if I do ghostwriting and would do a few for them for a fee. Well, I have but I’m not exactly sure if it’s really for me. I try to compare how much time I spend on writing it to what I’m actually being paid and factor that into my decision.

Conclusion

There are more ways in which I’m planning on making money but I’m going to try to focus on what’s the most successful to me.

Again, none of these are new ways but I guess it’s all about what works for you and actually taking action in doing it. If you see someone with a good idea, why not take that idea and make it better? If you can do that, I’m sure you’ll be just fine!

Anyways, sorry for the long ass post but I was trying to get detailed with my plan. And to think, I was going to get even more detailed but realized “damn, this post is long!” I hope you guys read some of it!

Wow man I really don’t know how you manage to get things done with so many projects knocking up the door. You are one hell of a multitasker. I barely manage to talk on the phone and write a note lol
About your plan I really think that you can do it if you focus on removing all distractions first. Even people that can do a lot of things at once have a limit. And I don’t see how you can write a book while playing poker :D
    Cheers !

It’s good to get a long post to read once and a while. People say that long posts make readers loose interest in reading them but I feel that the longer the post the better. Otherwise it’s like reading my horoscope :D

Well it sounds like you have a lot of plans but luckily you’ve probably got enough experience now to succeed with them as well. It can be tough to get organized and see real results, so best of luck to you, hopefully we can all learn something along the way!

I’ve always wanted to look at doing article writing for other websites, but I’ve never quite figured out how. It’s a little less risky than poker for a guy like me :)

Sounds like a good plan! Now the only thing is to get over the procrastination! But with a lot of ways for you to make money online, you have to cut down the time you work, and increase productivity. Also try to elaborate on each method to make more money from that.

That’s a good goal for you, Jay :) What I’m trying to do is just build tons of websites now and let it run on its own. So far a few dollars a day from new sites, but definitely a good start.

Gambling couldn’t be good or a permanent revenue generator for anyone. That is what I think like other people. But your way of thinking is amazing about poker.

After implementing the tip about using images near the google ads i read this post and i must say it really inspired me. I’m far far away from your goal but i with be happy with just a fraction of it. Anyway thanks for these great posts that are really helping me towards my goal which is to be able to sustain my living style entirely from online income.
