For everyone that is a Wordpress user, I’m sure you are well aware of Akismet, the plugin that filters out spam comments. You may think the best part of it is the fact that it prevents spam comments from getting in, well, I’d say it’s probably the beautiful keywords those spam comments deliver right to your doorsteps!
I used to overlook this all the time because who really likes spam? But since I’m a loser I care deeply for my visitors and commentators, I take extra time to go through my spam comments because typically there are a few real comments in there.
In my conquest to find those legit comments, I always see spam, spam, spam and I used to get blinded by that because it was annoying… until one day I just looked at some of the keywords and just did a quick check and they are some pretty good ones.
Besides all the porn type ones (there are some good keywords there too if you’re into that stuff), I found quite a few keywords that have some low competition and are searched for.
Let me give you an example.
I should have took a screenshot while it was in my Akismet filter but I accidentally deleted it. But one of the spam comments were just like 10-20 links with anchor texts. I saw random ones that would’ve been good but in the example I’m giving, a keyword I saw was “Rihanna haircut.”
Since Rihanna, the R+B singer, is pretty popular (especially since she’s all over the gossip and entertainment news currently for getting beat up by R+B singer Chris Brown), I figured this would be a good keyword to just look at.
What I did was just a typical Google search for “Rihanna haircut” and on my search engine it showed 585,000 search results so if I were to use it, I would probably have a good chance on making it to the first page.
(You can check out the screenshot below – click on the image to see it in full screen)
So now that we know that the competition isn’t too bad, let’s check if it’s actually being searched for.
In this example, I just did a quick check so all I did was go to Google Trends and typed in the keyword and if a chart appears, then at some point in time people were searching for it. If there is no chart, then that means there wasn’t enough information which also probably means not enough people were searching for it.
Based on the screenshot, people were and are still in fact searching for it.
Now you can take it a step further and check it in WordTracker or SEO Book keywords tool to find that specific keyword brings in about 60 searches daily. Of course, if you include the long-tail keywords then you’re probably looking at 100 searches daily.
So, now I have a decent enough keyword to potentially post about if I had an entertainment blog. You can also use this keyword for anything else but now you at least have it in your hands.
As I was going through all my spam comments, I noticed there was a lot of long tail keywords which if you looked it up based on what I mentioned above, you might not have the same results (with the graph and stuff).
Though, long tail keywords may often bring in more traffic so it may benefit you a little more to at least attempt to use it.
I’d just like to say Akismet is a lot more beneficial than just filtering out your spam comments.
Feel free to check it out!
I decided to do my weekly update today rather than wait for the weekend. And a bunch of things have been going on since my last update and I figured I’d keep you guys entertained (or bored) with this post.
I Lost 500+ RSS Feed Subscribers! – Well, not exactly. Yesterday I finally hit 800+ subscribers until I checked today, it dropped to 278! The reason is I finally made the switch from my Feedburner account to Google and apparently my RSS Feed numbers are going to be extremely low on all my blogs for the next 72 hours or so. That is perfectly fine and everything but it just brings me to my next point/update.
Of course, after I write this entire post it just went back to normal. Dammit!
Password to Protected Posts On Hold – Don’t worry, it shouldn’t be too long. I was planning on sending it out this week (yesterday actually) until I logged into my Feedburner account and didn’t have access to the e-mail subscribers due to transition. Once I get a hold of that information, I will send it out within the next day or two.
Link Exchange Anyone? - A few people have contacted me with link exchange inquires and I haven’t gotten back to them yet. Before you jump the gun, I’m mainly looking for link exchanges with my other blog iBlogtoBlog.com which would fit with entertainment, movie, music, sports type niches.
I’ll consider a few link exchanges here but please don’t contact me about it if your blog is brand spanking new. I’m going to be picky and look for blogs in a similar niche with the same type of quality links, traffic, subscribers, etc.
Recommended Wordpress Theme Designers? – Anyone have any recommendations? It doesn’t have to be an actual designer but if you know of any premium themes that would fit nicely with my site, that’d be great. I’m looking for something that would handle about the same about of ads I currently have and hopefully a 2-3 column template.
Most premium themes have referral and affiliate links and if I go with your recommendation, I’ll sign up through your affiliate link!
FREE Blog Headers Are Going Great! – I have only been able to design like 4-5 so far but it’s been going pretty good for the most part. I’m probably going to be extending this offer past what I originally said but I have yet to determine the date.
Site Flipping Team – I mentioned this in yesterday’s post but if you are still interested, please e-mail me by March 7th so we can all get this going already.
For the original people that expressed interest, if I do not hear from you by then, I will assume you are no longer interested.
Joint Ventures - If you aren’t interested in the site flipping group, I’m willing to partner up for a joint venture on a site. A few of you guys have already contacted me on a few and just as long as you guys stay committed, then I will definitely be interested in partnering up.
It’s good to do this because that way I have someone kicking my ass so I don’t get lazy and procrastinate and I can do the same too. I mean, no one wants the GOYFA certificate again!
Another Password Protected Post Coming Soon! – I was going to post a password protected post yesterday but since I didn’t have access to my e-mail subscribers, that basically defeated the purpose of even posting it. I’ll have it up pretty soon once I get my freakin’ Feedburner subscribers list.
And again, only my e-mail subscribers will receive the password to the protected posts.
FREE Advertising at DatMoney?! - Technically, yes, free. Unfortunately, it’s in a form of a contest that I’m sponsoring on another blog. They also have some other interesting prizes and you can check out the contest here.
I’m sure I’ll have more updates but in the meantime, I’ll try to get some more helpful posts written so you guys can actually go and try them out for yourselves.
Yes, I have finally managed to get time to come back to this and get this underway. I just sent out an e-mail to a bunch of people that originally sent me one expressing interest but for some reason I feel as though I’m missing some people. So, for anyone that is interested, please feel free and contact me by March 7th.
I know some of you guys have been patiently waiting and I’d like to thank you for that as well as apologize. I sent e-mails out a few weeks ago asking for you guys to come up with some ideas and thoughts so we could have something to at least bring to the table when we finally form. That way our brainstorming session should go a little easier.
Of course, if you guys got stuck, forgot about it or just completely didn’t give a crap about thinking up ideas, don’t worry, I have plenty that we can all build off of.
Everyone that has contacted me told me they have been interested in site flipping and want to gain the knowledge from this experience. Unfortunately, some of my site flipping experts could not participate this time around simply because they do not have the time and feel as though it’d be unfair to you guys. They don’t want to be the slacker in the group and let’s say we’re glad they told us that in advance.
In addition, I have partnered up with some of these site flipping experts on other sites so we have our hands full. I guess the difference between me and them is simply the fact that I have more free time on my hands. Some are in school, have day jobs, etc so it’s hard enough working on their other projects while trying to help us out too.
I have talked to a couple of you guys individually in partnering up as well so if you feel as though you can’t take on both tasks, just let me know.
This whole thing is mainly just a learning experience for most of you guys and a great way to get some knowledge similar to a one-on-one mentoring session. Of course, our goal is to make money while we do it but the knowledge and networking you’ll get with others is simply priceless.
Again, if you are interested please contact me by March 7th so we can finally get this underway.
Side note: I was going to send out the password to the $100/day Adsense post but since I haven’t had a chance to upgrade my Feedburner account or whatever, I’m unable to access to mailing list. Let’s hope I get that done this week!
A lot of you guys have probably been wondering why you haven’t received the password to the $100/day Adsense post yet or why I don’t send those passwords out immediately. Well, there are a few reasons why I don’t send it out right as you guys subscribe and I think it’s pretty logical on my end.
Not Automated and Time Consuming
I don’t have an automated response because I’m not signed up with services like Awebar or whatever. Even if I was, I probably wouldn’t want to send it out immediately anyways.
Since I don’t have it automated, I try to send out the password in batches so I’m not sending them all out one-by-one. If that was the case, I’d be spending way too much time just e-mailing people each day when I could just send out one every few weeks or so.
People Treat This Like Contests and Unsubscribe Soon After
People treat these password protected posts sort of like subscribing for a contest – they unsubscribe as soon as they find out who the winners are, or in my case, the information on how you can make $100/day from Adsense.
For those of you guys that read the post already, you guys should know that the post is more of an overview and it doesn’t go into step-by-step details. I’m saving that for my eBook whenever I have a chance to write it.
I know people don’t like subscribing via e-mail but it does have its advantages. In my scenario, you’ll receive any and every password for my protected posts, eBooks that I write, usually automatically entered into any contests that I hold and more!
I Want People To Give My Blog A Chance
People are so caught up in finding out the knowledge to make $100/day or more that they tend to overlook everything else. Some people are like “me, me, me, me!” that they’re blinded by the simple fact that they are getting some good information besides just trying to make $100/day from Adsense.
For instance, if you poke through my blog, you’ll find key components that will help you in your cause to make $100/day or more if you put effort into it. And of course, piece the puzzle together.
I want people to at least experience some of my posts to give it a chance instead of just wanting that one thing they came here for and then leaving for good. If they liked my posts before getting the password, I’m hoping they continue to stay subscribed. If they still like it even after they get the password, I definitely hope they stay subscribed.
If not, then that’s fine as well. My blog isn’t for everybody but apparently there are a lot of people willing to subscribe just to find out some free knowledge on how to make $100/day from Adsense.
Then again, if they are willing to subscribe to try to win a contest which is usually purely on luck then I’m sure they will subscribe for just about anything. Keep that in mind when enticing potential subscribers.
I don’t want to say I’m mad or pissed but I’m a little annoyed and frustrated. Why? Well, there are a few reasons and they all involve relying on someone else in one way or another.
Remember when I wrote “Why you should not rely on one source of income”, in these particular aspects, it’s almost like the same exact thing.
Do Not Put All Your Eggs in One Basket When It Comes To Revenue
In my first instance, I was partnered up with this site and essentially this site was loved by Google and other search engines because it had tons and tons of backlinks. So, essentially, if I were to blog about something popular (because I found a great way with my keyword research), my posts would show up on the frontpage for that keyword 90 percent of the time. And the agreement was the fact that I could display my own Adsense ads on the top and bottom of the post while they kept their ads on the sidebar.
Fair enough, right?
Yeah, I would say so. They were benefiting from getting the traffic, revenue and someone to constantly post for them.
So, I was making some great money from this partnership simply from Adsense and I was only posting like 5 times a week, usually all in one day. All of a sudden, I saw my Adsense take a huge hit and questioned what happened.
Of course, they screwed up the site and now none of the Adsense ads show up throughout the entire site! And they do not know how to fix it. To make matters feel like a slap in the face, they tried to offer $5/post to compensate us.
Um, $5/post? I was making like 10-20 times that daily and I was only posting once a day with a total of 5-10 posts. Now, I could post 10 times and get paid $50 but now I’m also doing like two, three and maybe four times more work just to keep up with what I was making from Adsense.
I relied on this partnership for a good chunk of revenue and just with a snap of the fingers, it’s just about all done. Luckily, that wasn’t my only source of income or else I’d be screwed.
Backup All Your Stuff And Don’t Rely On Hosting
In my second instance, it’s a little lighter but again, annoying. I just went to my banner designs to find a bunch of broken images that aren’t showing up. And of course, the reason is because most of those images weren’t hosted on my own server, they were actually with Google’s Blogger because I used to have a Blogger blog.
Of course, I never thought they would delete my hosted images but guess what? Looks like they did!
On top of that, if you guys knew about Google Pages, that was a great place to host your images, build certain things for pages, etc. But as you can see, they are no longer accepting new sign-ups.
I was once told they would be a reliable source to backup some files and images but now I’m second guessing that.
At least I still have an account and can log in!
Anyways, it’s hard to rely on someone especially if it’s someone you don’t really know. And even if you know the person, you should never rely on them 100 percent because you’ll find yourself screwed if anything happens.
Learn from my experiences and learn from your own. Don’t get screwed like me in the long run by relying on someone else.
