My Comments Section Isn’t Linking To My Commentator’s Sites - HELP!

Friday, January 2nd, 2009 | Other/Random, Ramblings with

This problem has been resolved thanks to Wesley.  He obviously knows what he’s doing and he has some great plugins coming out so make sure you check out his blog!  If you guys had a similar problem, feel free to read through the comments for some great advice from everyone.  Though, the conclusion to this dilemma was the Google Analyticator plugin. :D  I’ll have your 125×125 ad up later tonight Wesley! Thanks again!

This has been driving me crazy so I figured I’d write a post asking for help with this. If you comment on this (or any) post, you’ll notice if you enter in your name, site’s URL then post your comment it won’t show up correctly to link back to your site. I’m not sure what to do or how to fix it but I need help because you guys that comment will be losing out on this.

I recently upgraded to Wordpress 2.7 and slowly but surely I’m regretting it. In addition to upgrading, the only other change I did to DatMoney was simply adding the “nofollow” tag on various links on my sidebar as well as my header. But besides that I haven’t touched the site to make this mess up.

I was having a conversation with a fellow blogger and they mentioned it could be the fact that I just upgraded to WP 2.7 and some of the plugins are messing up the comment/links. It’s weird because I have another site that was already upgraded to WP 2.7 and the comment and backlink works just fine.

If you guys are still reading and still have no idea what I’m talking about, go to my “What Are Your 2009 Goals?” post and look at the comments. If you notice you can’t click on some of the commentators names to take you to their sites.

While the other ones will take you to their site but to their default error page. You’ll also notice their site URL’s will appear something like:

http://franklinbishop.net/blogging-school/’ rel=’external nofollow

It seems that I just have to close the html tag on the rel=’external nofollow’ tag but I looked around and have no idea where it is or how to change it. So, does anyone have any suggestions on what I should do because I have no idea how to fix it and I don’t want you guys to miss out on the backlinks to your sites and potential traffic.

Help? Matter of fact, whoever helps me and fixes the issue, I’ll hook you up with a 125×125 ad spot for the rest of January.

Help? Anyone? Please?

hey just simply reinstall wordpress 2.7 and reload the backup I suppose you have.. I haven’t seen any problem like that before. Also try to look at the codes of comments.php of your template. Try to replace it with the ones you had on your pc or your backup template…

    just my 2 cents anyway…

Can you send me the comments.php file from your theme? wp-content/themes/yourtheme/comments.php

You can probably fix it yourself, the problem is that the opening tag is ” and the closing tag is ‘ so you need to change it both to ‘.

I would suggest uninstalling the comments plugin that you are currently using and go with Commentluv. It is a no-follow comment plugin that allows the person who comments to show what their previous post is from their blog. Check out my site if you would like to get an idea of how it works

I’d be willing to bet you’ve got a plugin issue. Using some kind of seo plugin, maybe? Either that, or look at your theme’s comment section and see if there’s any hints there (like a missing single quote).

Jay, what plugins do you have active. Do you have the follow plugin or one of the threaded comments plugin. I just checked a couple of my sites that I upgraded to 2.7 the other day and they all look good.

Melvin - I’ll consider reinstalling 2.7 but do you think that’s really the problem?

Wesley - Yeah, I’ll e-mail it over to you in a couple minutes. But yeah, I noticed it’s just a simple quote I need to change but I don’t know how it was changed to begin with and I can’t seem to find it on the comments.php file. Honestly, I don’t think it’s the comments.php file because I even tried using a different theme and it was still giving the same problem.

Donny - This is CommentLuv :D And I tried to deactivate every comment-related plugin just to see if it would work.

Brad - I’ll send it over to you in a minute. But like I mentioned to Wesley, I don’t think it’s the comments.php file that is giving me the problem.

DazzlinDonna - Im pretty sure it has to be a plugin or something but I can’t seem to find out which one it is. Plus, I tried looking through my comments.php file to find that single quote and I can’t seem to find it either. Driving me crazy! lol

Bruce - Below are all the plugins I correctly have activated:

    Adsense Manager
    Akismet
    All in One SEO Pack
    CommentLuv
    Feedburner FeedSmith
    Feed Footer
    Get Recent Comments
    Google Analyticator

After checking some more, it’s probably google analycator, please check to see if you’re using the latest version. (If so, disable the plugin to see if this is indeed the cause)
