DatMoney Weekly Updates 3 – Some Important Ones!

Saturday, January 3rd, 2009 | Weekly Updates with 15 Comments

In this week’s updates, there are a few key ones including site flip teams, e-mails, $100/day on Adsense post, status on the winner of my contest as well as some changes in general here on DatMoney.

Happy New Year 2009

First, I hope everyone had a great New Year’s Day! I hope you guys gone wild at parties, got drunk but still managed to wake up the next morning without a stranger in your bed.

Anyways, let’s get to some quick, yet, somewhat important updates that may interest you.

Contest to Win a Flip Mino HD or Ipod Nano is CLOSED – The contest officially ended on December 31st and I think I got a chance to read almost every entry. I just have to do the hard part and pick one freakin’ winner out of all the great entries! Anyways, I’ll announce the winner on Monday, January 5th for those that are interested in checking back.

Site Flip Team E-mails Have Been Replied To – Sorry for the delay to everyone that contacted me regarding the site flip team. You guys know my laptop crashed and since I bought my new computer, I was having problems getting my e-mails off my server and onto my e-mail client. Anyways, I replied to everyone that sent me an e-mail so look out for that.

Some already responded to my reply but I think most haven’t. So, we’ll be waiting, but let’s hope not for too long like what I did. :P

All Other E-mails and Passwords to Protected Posts – I’m pretty much caught up with all my e-mails with the exception of just a few stragglers. If you’ve contacted me for the password to the $100/day from Adsense post after Thursday night then you’ll probably be receiving a response from me this weekend.

Anyone before that should have received the password if you subscribed with a confirmed e-mail address. There were some people that I checked and they weren’t even subscribed, yet, they said they did. Just an FYI, I can check on my end…

The Q&A Post Answer and Backlinks – Honestly, I completely forgot about answering the questions with everything that has been going on. I’ll try to get that posted this upcoming week.

Google Pagerank Girl

Google Pagerank and the “Nofollow” Attribute – I didn’t even notice until quite a few of you guys mentioned that my PR dropped. Matter of fact, I ended up making it on TheNetFool’s Top 100 MMO Blogs Pagerank Update List. But quite frankly, I still don’t care about Pagerank.

Though, I’m sure you guys are aware that I added a lot of “nofollow” attributes throughout my site. Don’t worry, it’s not going to effect any of you guys. I’m only doing this as an experiment to see if anything will change. I realized I have a TON of outgoing links that simply didn’t need to be “dofollow.”

If you have the SEO Firefox plugin installed, you will see a lot of things highlighted in red, meaning they are now with “nofollow” attributes. If you don’t see it, I changed the following to “nofollow”:

  • My Recent Posts on the sidebar
  • Half of my Popular & Helpful Posts on the sidebar
  • My RSS Feed Subscription links
  • Every link on my Navigation Menu except for Banner Designs
  • The Advertise Here links
  • I counted and there were 25 additional outgoing links that simply were not necessary. Hey, I’m testing it out, why not?

Banner Design Changes – I haven’t had time yet but I will be cleaning up my Banner Design page. Believe it or not, I get a decent amount of organic visitors from it and that page looks horrible as a landing page.

Yeah, that’s probably a big turnoff to potential clients.

In addition, I will be raising the prices slightly as of January 12th. The 125×125 will increase from $6.00 to $10.00 and the headers/full banners/logos will increase from $21.00 to $25.00.

The reason why I’m increasing the price is the fact that I almost felt the time spent working on it compared to the cost simply wasn’t worth it. It’s still pretty cheap but I’m hoping it will either a.) increase my revenue, or b.) decrease the amount of clients.

back-tattoo-advertise-hereIf you remember from a previous weekly update, I mentioned that I was considering stopping the banner design service in general because I didn’t have the time. Well, this idea of increasing the prices may help everyone. Well, somewhat.

Changed My Advertising Page Honestly, I haven’t even touched my advertising page since March 08 and if you saw it, the entire page was pretty messy. I decided to clean it up and get it organized so it looks a little more professional. The stats are from last month incase you were wondering. And no, I haven’t been promoting my site like I should be for those that are questioning the traffic.

Thanks to Everyone Willing to Help Me Out – Honestly, I can’t believe you guys are so helpful when I’m in need. First, it was my laptop crashing then it was my comments being messed up (even though I did offer an ad spot for the rest of the month :P ). If you help me, I will always be willing to help you. What goes around comes around, right?

Anyways, thank you to everyone once again and special shout out to Wesley for helping me resolve that issue.

So those are my updates that I can remember for the week. Of course, I’m posting this later than I wanted to because I was having problems with my internet. Go figure with all my problems, huh?

I hope to be hearing from some of you guys real soon!

I lost page rank to my blog as well, yet my serp positions haven’t been higher. I don’t worry to much about the whole page rank concept, some people say the tool bar is out by 6 months ? Who Knows, it’s traffic that counts.

Bad luck on the Pagerank, but as you say it’s mostly irrelevant…

Out of pure interest :) what difference will marking some of your links ‘nofollow’ make ? I apologise if thats a stupid question…

      Thanks

A busy boy I see. You need to change the banner prices on the banner page itself.

Speaking of no-follow, I thought contextual links were inherently no follow unless we made them do follow – is it the other way around?

Jason – The only way I would care is if my website(s) don’t show up in Google anymore. But PR, eh…

Ben – I thought I stated why? I’m doing it as an experiment… so if the next updated I magically go up to PR4 or something without building additional links, I guess I’ll know why I dropped.

Hugo – Google doesn’t like a lot of outgoing links from websites. If you get a lot of incoming and outgoing, they might see it as like a link farm. I have a lot of links that will get picked up in search engines cause they are currently “dofollow.” If I change them to “nofollow” then that means less outgoing links…

Did I make any sense? lol

Melvin – I got it on my Yahoo e-mail. Thanks… I haven’t read it yet but I will tonight.

Blog for Bloggers – You should make the irrelevant links “nofollow.” For instance on your blog, I would make the RSS Feed button, your ads, your pages on your nav menu, etc no follow. Because it’s not like you need/want them to be picked up by the search engines to rank anyways, right?

Dennis – I’ll change the prices on the banner design page when I fix up that entire page in general.

It depends on how your site is setup. But looking at your site, the only things that are “nofollow” that I can see are your top commentators (which is weird if you ask me), your list of links, recent comments, social bookmarking links and comments.

Your recent posts are all “dofollow” and everything else including your “other cool stuff”, most popular, nav menu, etc.

That’s just weird, which are and aren’t and I have no idea how to get into any of them.

What about links in content, are those inherently do or no?

So many things you have changed. Luckily, your Top Commentators widget is still dofollow. I will try my best to be on it. It is good to nofollow paid links as google will penalty those sites giving dofollow links to paid links.

Google should just stop showing PR. What benefit is it to them? People are trying to game it, trying to sell it, etc.. I don’t see a single benefit for google to show us this information.

Until the toolbar pagerank “icon” reflects live data, something I have only scarcely read about, the toolbar pagerank is useless. Considering the abilities of Google, having a tool that reflects data that is up to 6 month old is quite ridicules.
