Affiliate Marketing PPC Problem: SubID Not Working

Tuesday, December 9th, 2008 | Affiliated Marketing with 3 Comments

Has anyone been doing PPC affiliate marketing recently? Well, if you have been direct linking to through PPC you might have noticed your SubID not tracking correctly. Is it just me? Definitely not!

If you remember back when I wrote “What I have Learned from Affiliate Marketing So Far”, you might have saw that I mentioned putting “{keyword}” at the end of your affiliate link so you could track keywords, conversions and so on. Well, it doesn’t look like it’s currently working.

This is pretty unconfirmed so I don’t want to accuse every affiliate network out there, but a few of them have some bug in their “Direct Track” system. Essentially, this seems to be causing problems with the SubID tracking. And if you’re putting the “{keyword}” at the end of your affiliate link, the stats simply won’t show up.

I talked to one of my affiliate managers and she said they were aware of the problem and they currently have their tech guys looking into the problem as we speak.

I was talking with Paul from Inspiredaffiliate.com the other day about this and he had mentioned a couple of affiliate networks were having this problem including MarketLeverage.

Of course, I had to pause all my campaigns recently due to some credit card issues I was having but since I picked it back up as of late, I noticed that I couldn’t keep track of which keywords were converting.

As you should know, it’s all about keyword research and narrowing down which keywords convert and which do not. And if you’re doing direct linking with PPC, you are currently at a standstill.  Unless you’re willing to take shots without being able to narrow down which keywords convert.

All I know is, I hope they fix this soon. Because the longer we can’t track which keywords convert, the more money we could be potentially losing.

I can assure you I’m not the only one.

Are you having any problems with your SubID tracking?

Keywords are everything anymore. If you can get the right keywords to target then you shouldn’t have a lot of problems. I guess all you can do his research and research some more. And of course test afterwards.
