Resignation Letter Template for When You’re Ready to Quit Your Day Job

Wednesday, November 5th, 2008 | Other/Random with 13 Comments

So, why am I posting a resignation letter template for you guys? Well, I look at it like we’re all stuck (or have been) at some job just for that paycheck to pay bills but nothing more. We’re not happy. I mean, who wants to work just to pay bills, right?

I have a resignation letter template for you guys when you finally quit that day job and do something that you’ve always wanted to do; let’s say, working online full-time?

As a lot of you guys know, I currently work a day job on top of all the things I do online. Yes, I have a lot of student loans to pay off on top of all the bills I have on a regular basis but I just can’t wait for the day I’m able to submit my resignation letter to my current employer.

People tell me that I motive them and give them inspiration with all the things that I do online but I say you guys give me the motivation I need to reach that goal to work online full-time. I enjoy what I do online and I’m sure a lot of you guys do. I mean, who doesn’t like to work their own hours, be their own boss, make a lot of money and so on?

I do. And I have my resignation letter prepared for that day that I can say “I no longer need this job. I have paid off all my student loans. I want to be happy doing what I like best… working online.”

Can you say the same? If you can, you’re already a step ahead of me.

I hope this post gives you motivation because in life, we just need that extra push to our goals. And what better motivation to quit your day job than a reminder of a resignation letter that is on your wall?

Anyways, below are a few sample resignation letters for you to use:

Basic resignation letter:

Dear (supervisor’s name),

I hereby tender my resignation from my position as (your position).

My last day will be on (last day of work – usually at the end of the week on a Friday), two weeks from today, as per our contractual agreement.

Sincerely,

(your name)

Relocation resignation letter:

Dear (supervisor’s name),

This resignation letter is to inform you that my last day at (company name) will be (last day of work – usually at the end of the week on a Friday), two weeks from today. I will be relocating to (city, state) to pursue a new endeavor.

I have appreciated the opportunities and experiences that have been provided to me during my (number of years with company) years of service for (company name). If there is anything I can do to be of assistance during the transition, please let me know.

I think every blogger has their own way of providing inspiration to other bloggers. I find that everyones unique point a view is very interesting and provides substance.

Too bad I don’t need to provide a letter of resignation because I don’t have a job, but these leter are great and might have to keep them in my inventory of documents.

It’s going to be a tough one these days to quit the day job, but it’s not completely impossible. As long as you put your heart to it, it works out.

My goodness, how did you the idea to write a post like this, Jay but that’s a good one. Sometimes to succeed, it takes a little courage to explore into the unknown and breaking away from the 9-5 mentality might be a good start.

    No thanks, I don’t need a resignation letter as I don’t work for anyone…;)

Another great idea that has helped me to push myself is having a vision board on my wall. My vision board has everything that I want in life, it keeps me driving towards that goal. Also, I have sticky notes on my wall that plainly say, “Take Action”. If you take action, you will succeed.

I’d love to do this… but I work for my dad and all I’d have to do is say ‘Dad, I’m making enough online, I don’t need to work anymore’ and it would be sweet :D

A great idea for a post. I guess there are 1,000’s of bloggers out there wishing they can just make enough money to quite their job. I personally am happy in my day job but I do get a tremendous buz doing my online work. Maybe one day I’ll change my mind ;-)

Bruno – You never know when you’ll need it. Personally, I never had to use it myself but like I said, you never know!

How to make money – I do make $x,xxx per month online but I have a LOT of student loans to pay back lol! So, I might have to wait a little bit on this.

Mike – You have to put more than your heart but also your mind and not do anything you’re bound to regret too, you know?

    Dennis – NP!

Yan – Then you must work for yourself already so congrats! :D

PPC Case Study – Soon enough, soon enough…

Facebookmoneymaker – I heard a few people have that “vision board” but personally, I would need more than a sticky note that says “take action” because I procrastinate. :D lol

Tom – But don’t you want to be professional?! lol…

Me Debt Free – Unfortunately for most of us, our day jobs are just for a check to pay bills… but if you like your day job, let’s hope you never need to use this resignation letter template!

I’m absolutely itching to leave my job. It’s part-time but that’s not the point. I’d love to earn most of my income online so I can kick the part-time job to the curb. The idea of managing my own hours appeals to me better than someone managing mine. I also crave the potential of being able to work from whichever corner of the world I happen to be in.

I’m getting there in terms of earning online – over half way there. I just need a couple of almighty big pushes (and luck and opportunity).

When I resigned from my day job I didn’t use a template from the web, but basically just told my manager a/I’m resigning b/I’ll leave on this date. Straight-forward and simple, but don’t go burning bridges on your last days. It doesn’t hurt to maintain a good relationship with them.
