I’ve been preaching this for quite sometime now, but you should never rely on one source of income. And if you do, more than likely it’s going to be hard on you, trust me!

A lot of people like using Google Adsense, affiliate networks, even paid reviews to make money but the unfortunate part is the fact that most pay on a monthly basis. And let’s say if something terrible happens and you don’t get paid, then aren’t you screwed?

So, let me tell you about my situation that just happened to me recently. But before I go on, I do not put all my eggs in one basket when it comes to making money online and revenue but I was expecting this check to come in to pay off a few things.

I did some affiliate marketing recently but not through an affiliate network or anything. I went straight through the company’s site because they simply paid more, plus, I don’t think any affiliate network had this particular “product.”

So with this company, you need to submit documents (government issued ID, proof of residence, etc) before they issue you a check. I know what you’re thinking but this is a reputable site and company. Anyways, after I did that I got approved so now I could start receiving checks after I have reached $xxx amount.

Well, I made just about $800 in profit. I know that isn’t much but it’s enough for me to pay off a few bills and that is why I was looking forward to this check.

Of course, once I got approved, sent in my request to process my check, etc, I got denied and sent an e-mail stating they could not process my check for XYZ reasons.

Now, I’m pretty upset so I’m going back and forth with their customer support in which they just kept telling me the generic things I would find in their FAQs, and that is not what I wanted to hear.

And this has been going on for the past two or three days now. I’m currently waiting for, yet another, response from a different customer service rep.

At this point, luckily I was just paid through Paypal by a couple of recent sponsors so I don’t have to worry about those recent bills but you see what would have happened if I held my breathe for this one check, right?

My bills would not have been paid at this point, I would have been hit with late fees, well, you guys know the whole story behind that stuff.

I have another story/rant about Google Adsense but I’ll have to save that for another post. But I just wanted to get the word out that you should never rely on only one source of income when trying to make money online.

If you look at all the successful online entrepreneur’s or bloggers, you know they don’t rely on one check every month. And if you can find one successful online entrepreneur that does, tell me who it is and I will go kiss their ass for you. :D

I’ve had that problem before and it sucks. Alot of people don’t think of this until there is a problem. Keep hounding them for the $$$.

Definitely JayMoney! Even if you’re making great, consistent $$ in one area, I think it’s still smart to have other streams/sources.

Hope it works out for ya!
    Cheers!

I absolutely hate it when companies send out “GENERIC” responses. It’s like they don’t care about responding to you…

    Hi Jason!

Good advice, another aspect of it might be to not let the first payment build too high, before ensuring that the payout does come.

This is the thing which I have been doing for long time.I never rely only on adsense,so I have adbrite along with other local contextual ads set up on my blogs.

But sometimes I get Greedy by adsense good revenue and I remove other contextual ads :P

Yep. Definitely a good point. That’s what so many people have said. I guess it doesn’t only apply to online income, even if you work a job and get your income from working for someone else, it is still wise to get another income stream on the side.
