The other day I mentioned I was going to build 10 Niche Websites in 10 Days , well, according to my schedule I would need to finish that by the end of this week and I doubt that’s going to happen because of my other projects (and day job). But currently, I’ve built five niche sites and I’m just going to go over the basics on what I did and how I did it.
Before I go on, I think there was some confusion about my mini-project. A couple of people e-mailed me saying they’re interested in my 10 niche website flips in 10 days. I’m not going to flip these sites in 10 days but rather just build them so if I wanted to flip them in the near future, I could. I’m not that advance in site flipping yet to sell 10 brand new sites build from scratch in 10 days.
First, I did my basic keyword research to see what type of website I’m going to build it around. Essentially, we want a keyword that’s pretty popular in search engines so we can rank on the first page. Honestly, ranking on the second page works just as good depending on what type of site it is.
After we’ve done the keyword research (which you can read how I do it on this post ) we want to proceed to find a domain name similar to that keyword. Most of these domain names are already taken but if you just include the keyword(s) within the domain that should be fine.
There are two different ways I set up my niche websites; a couple by doing HTML sites and the others using the Wordpress platform.
I figured I’d mention how to do both so you guys have the option. Personally, I feel building HTML sites are a lot easier only because you only have to build like 5-10 pages. To do so, just get a basic HTML template and just copy and paste that file and that’s how you get your 5-10 pages. Now all you have to do is change the information on each page.
If you’re making an Adsense based site to monetize, and then make sure you add the Google’s “privacy policy” page because that’s required by the Big G.
I’m only going to go over the generic stuff in this post and if people are interested, I’ll go into more depth with building them, keyword research, etc.
The other way of building niche sites is to use Wordpress and I’m sure most of you guys will use this method because you’re probably used to it already. You can do the same exact thing with the Wordpress platform as you can with the HTML sites when building your pages (not posts).
Remember, you can have your pages display on your homepage rather than the posts. Just make 5-10 pages (again, not posts), get all your essential plugins ready (All-in-one SEO pack, Adsense manager, etc) and then build links around the keyword you’re targeting.
Here’s the thing, if you want to make posts, make a tons of them because that will actually help you out in search engines. If you have 100 posts, that’s 100 different pages which is essentially 100 different links that would help you in link building. For instance, there is a theme site that I built and I basically wrote a lot of posts for individual themes. Now I have, um, say 100 individual posts which is essentially 100 links. Now you can put your own site’s URL on your own blogroll with the keyword you’re targeting and you’ll have 100 links helping you in search engines.
Of course, you also need to get links from other places (forum signatures, social media and bookmarking sites, other blogs, etc) and you should easily rank on the first or second page of search engines. (I have one site that ranks first on Yahoo and second on Google and I get pretty good traffic).
This post is just a quick outline of how I build my niche sites. I know I left out a lot of details but I just wanted to go over the basics before I go into the details. Make sure you’re subscribed to my RSS Feeds by entering in your e-mail address below just incase any of my posts end up being password protected in the future.
That way you won’t miss out like others did with my $100/day from Google Adsense .

I use Wordpress just like you stated, just by using pages instead of posts. I’m soooo used to Wordpress now that it’s actually faster for me to create static sites that way opposed to html. Plus, I find that I can get organic traffic much quicker using Wordpress.
Looking forward to the next in this “series”.
Dude, you keep linking to that $100/day Adsense post, but I never got the pass and it’s driving me insane. Do I have to fly down there and buy you a beer to get it or what?

Neither have I Sly – I have always just used posts
I normally use WordPress if I’m going to flip this site, becuase of the great designs you can get, but if I am creating a mini content site to keep for adsense than I usually use HTML, as I feel I can get better ad placement

Dilson – I’m glad man. If you need help or have questions, feel free to leave them here or just hit me up on instant messenger sometime.
Jay – I haven’t compared yet but my organic traffic for my HTML sites came quick as hell. I just put my robots.txt file up and BAM! They all come… but e-mail me back man and I’ll hook you up with the pw. Don’t worry, I’ll take an IOU for the beer.
Sly – So many people are using WP for static sites and landing pages, it’s crazy man! Don’t worry, Jay will buy beers for all of us!
Freddie – Whut up man! Thanks for stopping by. Yeah, I get lazy as hell when it comes to the content too. Yo, let me know when you get your site out there and I’ll check it out.
Simon – You can get good ad placement on WP as well though. Personally, I like HTML sites for that too but I figured I’d toss that WP stuff out there. Though, I usually flip the HTML ones when I can and keep the WP sites.
Jay
Jay – I will be sure to let you know. It is in a really small niche according to WordTracker, but I want to get in, dominate, and have some success….rinse and repeat.
That’s the secret to success right, have some success and build on it!
I’m not really a big fan of the ‘more sites = more money’ or website flipping either, I prefer to just focus on getting a few big.

Jay, are you aware of a script called 19pages? it is a great tool to create our mini sites easily. It works with php and it is easy to manage pages and ads.

Anyone can create niche websites in under a day.. but that means nothing. It is the traffic, revenue and how much the site flips for that makes a small site like that anything important.

Jay
@ Danny – I can respect that. Everyone has their business plan…or at least they should. Mine is still in development, but I know that I will develop niche sites, flip sites, and build some monsters of the midway..so to speak!
hey, good luck with it all. keep us updated. having multiple sites is better imo but i could never knock up 10 in 10 days. that is almost insane.

Dennis Edells last blog post..My First Contest! Time To Put Your Thinking Caps On…
hi the keyword research is something that is entirely new to me i never heard of it before as i am new to this internet blogging world…. but now i have ample information about this thx a lot pal
Wordpress will make the whole process a lot easier.
Also you say you are trying to get a keyword in your domain but I’ve read that this is actually unneccessary. Keywords in the domains really don’t have any effect.
Of course if you want type in traffic then it’s worth it.
John
Kouji – A lot of people forget to add a Privacy Policy on Adsense pages which seem to be required from Google, apparently.
Dennis – LOL! I’d be glad to mentor you, just contact me via my contact form. But either way, I’m glad you made it onto my blog!
John – You don’t HAVE to get a domain with the keyword in it because I’ve optimized well without it. BUT it does help, I mean, try Googling any celebrity name and more than likely you’ll see a fan site with the name right in the domain highlighted.
Eh, but who REALLY knows? lol!
Jay
Great article about beginning a niche site. Going with a wordpress site makes the entire processing of staring a website a lot easier than if you are going to make one on your own. If you have HTML and some programming experience, it may be more beneficial to construct a website that suites your needs better than wordpress can offer. As a software developer, I use wordpress for some blogs of mine and it just saves tons of time.
It appears as though there is a step-by-step process laid out here for someone to use if they would want to make one or many different sites on certain topics. Keyword search always tends to be a big part of it so people don’t make a site with a name that won’t show up like zzfiowfieb.com.
Although I have seen numerous lists, I had not run into a lists-only site as of yet, and I think that they may have an audience. Having only lists might be a limiting factor as readers might one day want something that isn’t in ordered numerical form.
Niche and content is the most important point of the website…
“Honestly, ranking on the second page works just as good depending on what type of site it is.” Not sure what you mean by that? I hate dropping to the second page for any of my sites primary keywords as the traffic decreases in a major way too, especially bearing in mind the small percentage of users who actually even click on page ‘2′ of SERPS.
Where’s my beer Jay?
I’m not really a big fan of the ‘more sites = more money’ or website flipping either, I prefer to just focus on getting a few big.

Very informative post, I am pretty confident when it comes to building sites but I really benefited from your link to how you do your keyword research, this is an area that I always seem to struggle with. Thanks
Basically I do not support site flipping at all and it seems neither do you. I thinks site flipping is a one time effort and one time earnings business whereas building a niche site is one also an one time effort but with long term benefits – its like the hen which lays golden eggs so it rather much more profitable to keep it. Niche sites are easier to maintain too. Anyway you have quiet effectively outlined the basics of niche site building. It always helps to read this information packed posts from you.
