I’m sure you guys are aware that Entrecard was recently put up for sale, well, apparently it’s not for sale anymore. At least not right now.
I haven’t been active at all on Entrecard and matter of fact, I can’t remember the last time I logged into any of my accounts (I’m still trying to figure out how these ads on my widget gets approved without my permission!).
Anyways, I first read that Entrecard was for sale on Jason’s TUK blog and I laughed about it. I was thinking to myself, well, finally they’re selling! But that’s not why I laughed. I LOL’d, I mean, I really laughed out loud on this one. Entrecard was put on auction with a starting bid of $100,000 and a BIN of less than a million.
I honestly don’t think its worth that much especially the fact that I read the site makes only $2,000/month which is pretty crappy for an entire network if you ask me. That’s a clear case of not knowing how to monetize properly (I’ll be writing a post about that for tomorrow), but at least it’s something.
On top of that, the Entrecard reputation hasn’t been that good especially the fact that a lot of big name bloggers bashed the site for various reasons.
I made a guess and said Entrecard wasn’t going to be purchased at that price or Graham, the owner, would not end up selling the site for whatever reason.
And you’ve guessed it, I was right!
If you take a look at the Sitepoint auction , originally it had a whole detailed report on why it was listed, the stats, etc. But now all that information was taken off, the auction was canceled and if you scroll down to comment #24, the seller said “site not for sale anymore.”
Personally, I don’t know what the reason is but if I had to take a guess, it would be one of two conclusions: The owner was getting too much crap because of the worth (or lack of) of the site and decided not to sell it until he figured certain things out or he is back into negotiations with a Venture Capitalist on expanding that into a full company with employees.
Either way, the site is not for sale anymore as we speak and I bet you’ll see it on auction in the next six months or so again!

A sign of instability if you ask me…

Maybe people told him his asking price was outrageous? He may have just decided to work more on building the site and building revenue… if he can get the revenue up ( $2k per month? YIKES! ) , then he could get some decent money for it.

Don’t know if you saw my comment on the SitePoint listing, but my name on there is WildFxP
I wonder if my comments did anything

The price seemed to be a joke to me too.. as the earnings had no relation to what the asking price was.
Anyways am out of EC more than a month back.

Hey what’s up.
I’d like to point out that I have received thousands of hits from entrecard and it never cost me a penny.Second I think it’s sad and every hater should be ashamed of themselves.Grahams a great dude and he kept silent as he spent his money for us.I would of monetized it from day one and maybe had a membership fee from the get go.
Sadly many bloggers don’t appreciate a damn thing.
They want clicks and traffic and don’t do anything for anyone else but themselves. You can easily see what people are doing and not doing.
So the one way bloggers that don’t appreciate anything keep it up.I’ll wave as I pass you by.
Thanks
Tell me. Even for a big site like that, would you actually invest $100,000 on it? I know I wouldn’t. If it was YouTube or MySpace or something, then we have a different story. Entrecard? I don’t think non-bloggers even know what it is!

It was too unstable to be sold IMO - and the earnings were way too low
Speak of the Devil, my Entrecard account was deleted today because I signed up and never used it

PotPolitics - LOL! Relax man, you need to have a previously approved comment for it to show up. I do this to avoid spammers for getting through. But let me ask you a question, how long have you been a member of Entrecard?

I dont like it now they say we cannot sell or transfer our entrecard credits! That was the good thing about entrecard!
