Focus Poster

I do not want to end up like John Chow or any other person who ends up turning their MMO, entrepreneur, blogging tips type of blog into one that ends up talking about what they ate for lunch and talk about random posts that doesn’t really help my readers at all. On top of that, I don’t want to forget my roots and how I got here in the first place; networking and socializing.

First of all, I stopped using social media and bookmarking sites to promote my blog because I wasn’t too happy with the end results. Don’t get me wrong, the traffic was great but I felt a majority of it wasn’t quality traffic. Instead, in the past months, I’ve been focusing more on SEO to get a large part of my traffic but my networking status has gone down a lot. And that’s going to change pretty soon as well.

I’m that type that feels if you give, you shall receive. And I haven’t been that great in giving so I’m sure my receiving on the networking end has gone down. Actually, that’s more like a fact. I haven’t been as good in commenting on other blogs, helping people out, just socializing even. And I know that is a turnoff for many bloggers.

I mean, who likes a blogger who never takes the opportunity to even check out their readers’ blog, converse with them and just network. And trust me, if you network, there are a lot of benefits from it. More than you think.

But I’ll talk about that in a later post.

I have to step up on the posts that I write on this blog because I like receiving comments, I like when the posts help my readers, I like socializing and helping people out. So, I’m hoping to work on the posts that come on here and hopefully that will attract other readers and possibly more commentators.

When it comes down to it, we can all get traffic but it’s the readers that we want. See, readers are the ones that will continue to come back, readers are the ones who will comment on your posts, readers are the ones that you will eventually network with and readers are the ones who make your blog the way it is.

With that said, I’m going to start off by changing a few things on my Market Leverage contest to win a Nintendo Wii such as making it a little easier to enter and give more options. I will make the updates tomorrow or the next day when I have a little more time.

But in the meantime, I’m going to start focusing on better and helpful content, getting more traffic and readers with various promotion tactics and trying to stop procrastinating on all these projects I’m currently working on.

So, have you guys lost focus on anything that you should work on?

Sell Porn Make Money // August 13th, 2008 at 4:54 am

Dude… I lose focus like every thirty minutes. I sell porn, and have unlimited amounts of it at my disposal. Try to keep focus while building hot websites with amazing naked broads on them. Yeah, its a challenge. Oh the ride… 1 minute I am motivated, working on a site or trying to generate traffic while looking at porn. Losing focus… focus gone (read: personal break ;P) focus returning… wondering how I am different from monkey… ok, what was I talking about?

I noticed some of the blogs I visit changed their niche from MMO to a more personal topics. I think staying with your niche is still preferable because it is the main reason why your readers visits you, because they know they can learn a lesson just by visiting this blog. I visit you because I wanna learn from you ;0

2008 Olympics Medal Count - Here’s the thing, I rather tell people about my experiences and what I have actually done rather those people who read from other blogs and just rewrite it into their own words.

I don’t want to be one of those people who write posts like “here’s how you make money doing x, y, z” yet, they make $0.02 a day. Or “here’s how you increase your RSS Feeds” yet they have 13 subscribers.

I want to show people what I do and back it up. And if you fall under the MMO niche and have no idea what you’re doing, more than likely you’re exactly who I’m talking about.

When I read about how to do this or how to do that on a blog with little to no experience, I just figure they obviously got it from a bigger source. I then try to find that source.

I nice gesture you make here in this post and a wise one I would suspect. We all need to keep in mind that a niche blog/site is just that. Not a playground of “this is my life” stories. We can make a site for that sort of content. No need screwing up a perfectly good site with personal chitchat. Good luck in your quest to better your blog. It is great the way it is!

P.S. I subscribe to you and am a daily reader. I get a lot out of my visits here.

I follow several MMO’s for different reasons. Some i follow because of product reviews..others i buy because I like to hear what they say. It just depends on how you connect. I’m glad yours is different. If you had the same product reviews..I wouldn’t be able to tell teh difference from the other MMO’s

I agree with you, focus on what you good at. That is the reason why we come back to your blog. That is the label you build up in our mind.
Just like tune in TV channel or movie. You will have some expectation on what you are going to get, but expect something unexpected.
If you keep changing your blog’s subject, you will lost the label already build up.

Focus is a key point to building a strong brand and to master what you’re doing. I just want to comment about something you said Jay. I myslef have 21 subscribers and happen to write : “How to increase RSS subscriptions”. In fact, I think it could be ideas that don’t work for me and could work for someone else. It could be ideas that I am starting to implement and that my readers can start too, and that can be successfull in the long run. My perception is that an MMO blog should be a place where the owner is sharing his experiences, successes and failures. It is not necessarily a blog of someone who is making $50,000 per month and who shows people the divine way of how to do it. Because being a successful money maker on the net doesn’t necessarily mean that you are a great blogger or that you are a mastermind. For example, give anyone $5,000 to promote his blog and he can become an A-List in a month with a minimum of good content.

That is a hard one to keep up with. Although I try to get back on occasion to everyone that left a comment it is difficult.

Somehow we end up getting sidetracked. I even missed a few days of your posts cause I was busy working (offline)

I believe in SEO but with my blog I have a hard time. Guess the reason is simple I talk abouot random topics and what ever strikes my fancy that particular moment.

Any suggestions to improve my SEO??

    O. Messaoud - I’m just curious, then why would you write titles “how to increase RSS subscribers?” Because as a reader, if I read that I would think the post is just BS because they can’t even implement their own tactics.

And working on experience, if you do write posts like that with no proof to back it up, you’ll just fall into the same category as most of the MMO bloggers.

Though, I do agree with you that the owner should share his experiences, successes and failures; they just shouldn’t preach what they don’t practice.

Lastly, on your “ive anyone $5,000 to promote his blog and he can become an A-List in a month with a minimum of good content” that is not true. I know someone who had a $10,000 budget and hasn’t gone anywhere… extremely far from an A-lister.

Wendy - I do have suggestions on SEO in which I’ll try to cover in upcoming posts.

Derek - We’ll all lose focus once in a while, but sometimes we just need some time away to get back on track.

I will give an example. Recently, Gyutae Park from Winning The Web wrote an article on how he increased his RSS subscriptions overnight. Obviously I was curious to find out. When I read, he actually emailed a base of 500 subscribers in his Aweber newsletter and converted most of them to RSS subscribers as well. Although Gyuate now has 1500+ subscribers, and is, consequently, credible when talking about how to increase RSS, his article doesn’t help ME because I don’t have a 500-email file. On the other hand, another small blogger could have got the idea and just shared it on his blog. He still would not be able to implement it himslef, but it would have been useful to a blogger like Gyutae who has a 500-email file. I don’t know if it makes sense.

    O. Messaoud - “On the other hand, another small blogger could have got the idea and just shared it on his blog. He still would not be able to implement it himself.”

I guess I find a slight problem with that because that’s exactly what I’m talking about. Another MMO blogger just recycling what they read from someone elses’ site and using as their own, yet, they never used the method themselves so why would anyone listen to them in the first place?

I mean, a majority of MMO bloggers just read John Chow or someone and just write the same thing they read but in their own words.

Jay - I am not talking about those who copy others’ posts and just rewrite them. I am talking about sharing ideas that might not work for you (because you may not have the necessary resources, time, whatever…), but that might work for someone else. I don’t think that blogging should be just telling what we do.
