Can You Really Make Money Blogging? Especially Outside the MMO Niche?

Monday, June 30th, 2008 | Make Money Online with 19 Comments

Woman lying in money

I hear this question a lot, “can you really make money blogging? If so, how do you do it?” It’s simple, create a blog, build up your statistics for it and once the traffic comes, then you’ll make money blogging. And tons of it, may I add.

I think people get a little confused when they hear the phrase “make money blogging” because some tend to think they have to start a “make money online” (MMO) niche type of blog. But in actuality, you don’t have to. Matter of fact, I would highly suggest that you don’t start a MMO blog, and I can guarantee you’ll make more money blogging from another niche besides the oversaturated MMO.

If you don’t believe me, a good friend of mine, Rome, decided the MMO niche wasn’t for him anymore so he started to blog about what he liked and was interested in – video games.

Since he started doing that, all his stats skyrocketed. His daily unique visitors went from around 200 or so to 1,000-2,000+, his RSS Feed subscribers went from 50 to 500 700+ in less than one month since he made the switch. But the most important thing out of all this, he’s making more money blogging from that niche than he was in the MMO niche.

See, that must tell you something. You can make money blogging and you can simply discuss your interests instead of talking about something you don’t know too much about.

I had another example that I heard about a few months ago, but I couldn’t remember the blog’s URL. But I read from this magazine that a 17-year-old girl started a blog and since then, she’s making about $70,000/month.

Now, that’s what I call make money blogging! And yes, that $70,000/month was strictly from her blog.

I added that to let you guys know that you can definitely make money blogging. We all might not be able to make as much as that 17-year-old girl, but it’s definitely doable. (For the record, I heard her blog ranks around 400 overall on the internet and that’s higher than Oprah’s site, so that tells you something. Also, she basically discusses her life as a teenage female)

I decided to experiment with this and created a completely new blog outside of the make money online niche and I’m going to personally show you guys that you can make money blogging outside the MMO niche. Matter of fact, I have bets that I’ll make more with my other blog than I do with DatMoney.

Anyone want to take this bet? :P

Weekly Roundup – Interesting Articles Around the Blogosphere

Saturday, June 28th, 2008 | Weekly Roundup Links with 4 Comments

If you have noticed, I don’t update as much as I should over the weekends here on Datmoney, so instead, I’m going to do a weekly roundup on interesting articles that I have read around the blogosphere. Yes, this is a new thing and if people like it and it works well for me, then I will continue to do it once a week on the weekends.

I’m also doing this as part of an experiment. :D But these are blogs that are typically in my RSS Feed readers or I visit daily. If you know of any interesting articles, let me know and I’ll check it out and possibly post it.

But let’s get this started (in my particular order):

If you are having writers block or you just can’t get creative enough with it, try reading “Connect with your Creative Writer” written by Tina Su.

If you need some character building qualities or simply don’t know if you have enough to start your own internet business, feel free to check out “The Character Building Qualities of Launching your own Internet Business” guest posted by Richard Adams on AffiliateConfessions.com.

Can You be Too Honest on your Blog? Well, Matthew sure doesn’t think so. And he also gives a warning about putting adult images on any blog. (I may have to double check some of the pictures I put on here!)

Do you think there’s still value with RSS Feed subscribers? Why do people make such a big deal out of it when it can be gamed just like anything else? Well, you should check out “Is there still value in RSS Subscribers?” written by Mike Huang.

Have you ever been interesting in getting into Affiliate Marketing? Well, you’re going to have to get pretty close with your affiliate managers, so Paul writes on “Being a Good Affiliate Manager.” If they’re not treating you good, you’ll know!

Have you ever wondered what “The Most Powerful Persuasive Element of Blogging” is? Well, Brian Clark gives his thoughts and opinions on it.

“How Using a Back-Story Will Improve Your Marketing Campaign and Brand Identity”, well, enough said with that… written by Maki so you know you should read it.

Problems with people stealing your content and the whole duplicate contest affects? Check out “How Google Addresses Duplicate Content Due to Scrapers”

“Do You Suck at Make Money Online?” Lol… the title pretty much speaks for itself. Written by Zac Johnson.

I know a lot of people are trying to get into affiliate marketing (including myself) so you should probably check out “7 Things to Consider in an Affiliate Program” guest posted by Dave Martinez on Jonathonvolk.com

“The 5 Business Models of SEO” If you’re looking for the pros and cons or just want to know a little bit about SEO, you should check out this post written by Gyutae Park.

“Want to Sell your Blog? Want to Buy Blogs?” I would contact Daniel Scocco and he will try to help you. One person he tried helping sold his blog for $30,000!!!

I know there are a bunch of articles there, but they are all worth reading (if you haven’t already done so).

If I get a positive feedback from this, I will continue to do this weekly. And if you have a post or know of a post that is interesting, let me know and I will check it out!

Submit to 47 Social Bookmarking Sites in 15 Minutes and Make Money from it!

Thursday, June 26th, 2008 | Blogging Tips, Blogging Tools, Blogging for Traffic, Make Money Online with 19 Comments

Irina VoroninaRemember how the other day I mentioned that list of dofollow social bookmarking sites that will help you with backlink juices? Well, I also said I would write a post on how to submit to a bunch of those in 5 minutes (and I got some requests as well… and one spoiler lol) But here it is.

Since there are about 19 dofollow social bookmarking sites that I know of currently, there’s a very easy way to submit to all of them in less than 5 minutes. You go to socialmarker.com and it lets you enter in all the “bookmark details” and after that, it’s just a matter of clicking submit.

Okay, maybe it’s not that easy. Like I said before, you have to register accounts with each of those social bookmarking sites before you use socialmarker.com. After you have done so, it’s just a matter of filling in the details of your post title, post URL, text and tags.

After you fill out that quick form, all you have to do is click submit, next, submit, next and BAM! You’re done in less than 5 minutes… well, only if you’re doing the dofollow social bookmarking ones. Matter of fact, socialmarker.com also sorts it for you by clicking on a simple “dofollow” button.

dofollow social bookmarking

You can also sort by the best social bookmarking (as in the most popular), news and all.

Personally, I aim for the dofollow ones because it actually gives more backlink juices to help your posts out in search engines.

Don’t get me wrong, you could submit to all of them and it’ll take less than 15 minutes to do. And if you do, your posts will also get indexed in Google a lot faster as well!

Now, for those of you guys who never knew about these types of sites, you can also make money from this.

How you ask?

Well, a lot of people are lazy *cough* Jason a.k.a. The University Kid *cough* but there are people willing to pay you for submitting their articles to social bookmarking and media sites. To these individuals who don’t know about these easy ways of submitting, you can take advantage of that (and no, there’s nothing wrong with helping a lazy person out).

I Won Affiliate Confession’s ML and Vat19 Contest!

Wednesday, June 25th, 2008 | Contests, Other/Random with 15 Comments

Vida GuerraAs you guys already know, a bunch of blogs were hosting Market Leverage contests (including me) and I’m sure a bunch of people entered all the ones they could find. Well, I did the same exact thing since I couldn’t enter my own. But Affiliateconfession.com also had additional prizes!

This is one of the first times I’ve won a contest with such great prizes. I’ve won other contests but nothing really worth mentioning. And others never gave me the prize(s) that I won.

But here’s what I won from Affiliateconfession.com sponsored by Market Leverage and Vat19.com:

Nintendo DS Lite with 2 games
AffiliateConfession.com T-Shirt
Flip Mino video camera
iPod Nano
$50 Market Leverage Rewards Card
2GB USB Pen

USB Missile Launcher
Banana Bunker (protect your bananas)
Ambient Water DVD Video (very low maintenance aquarium)

That just tells you something, anyone can win contests! Matter of fact, I’m glad ML sponsored so many blogs because I discovered a bunch of new ones that I probably wouldn’t have known about before. And yes, I subscribed to Affiliate confession’s RSS Feeds (and it wasn’t even a contest entry!) because there’s some pretty good overall posts.

And no, I’m not planning on selling the Nintendo DS Lite even though I’ve gotten a few offers for it already LOL! But special thanks to Alan of Affiliateconfession.com, Vat19.com (particularly Stefanie) and everyone at Marketleverage.com but in this specific case, Debby and Dina (hey Dina! J )

I’ll update you guys when I receive the prize(s) sometime next week!

But if you haven’t already done so, make sure you enter my Market Leverage contest which ends next week July 3rd. I’ve gotten tons of entries but one can only hope for more. :P

Side note: Thanks Trent for suggesting Vida Guerra for my hot celeb picture. It was tough to find a picture of her actually clothed… well, at least decent enough to put on here and not offend anyone… even though I’m sure you guys wouldn’t mind otherwise :P But if you have suggestions, feel free to leave them and if I choose yours I’ll give you a backlink!
