Should you Set Up A Porn Site with Porn Affiliate Links to Make Money Online?

We all know the majority of internet traffic comes from pornography and if you didn’t know that, well, that’s the truth – but is that enough to take advantage of to make money from it? Well, I guess it’s up to you to decide that. You could set up a porn website and fill it with porn affiliate links and not tell anybody about it, but would you? I can tell you that if you did it right, you can make some good great money.

Now, I have not made or tried out porn affiliates to make money online, I just wanted to make that clear. But if you did set up a site, you could get tons of benefits from it. Don’t get me wrong, the closest thing relating anywhere near the subject is “Dat Sex Education Class You Wish You Had” but it actually has absolutely NO pornographic material. It just discusses various issues on sex, things that everyone should know about. But the benefit you could possibly get from it (besides the great search engine traffic) are the incentives and money making possibilities.

I own DatCurious.com, which isn’t even a porn site, but I’ve been approached quite a few times from companies offering me FREE products and sponsorships if I mentioned their company once in a while. Just imagine if I wanted to start an online adult store from my site, then these companies would basically sponsor these “products” and I would make quite a fair share of money.

So, just imagine setting up a porn site and including porn affiliate links in it, that basically equals lots and lots of money. I mean, to make money online, you need to take advantage of the opportunities, right? If you see a good thing or have an idea, you need to run with it, right?

I’m not suggesting that you should set up a porn site with affiliate links to make money online but it was some food for thought. Plus, if you are considering it, just look at some of the advantages for setting one up:

- You can possibly get free products, free porn, etc.
- It is by far a lot easier to get traffic – and a lot of it is search engine traffic. You know what they say, search engine traffic = people who click on Google Adsense
- More than likely you’ll make a lot more money from that than any online venture
- Also, who knows? You may learn more than just making money online ;-)
- No one has to know that you’re behind the site. Let the A-listers be celebs, you can be the director… usually they get paid more too!

Hey, porn is probably the best money maker on the internet so you know I had to mention it!

I have multiple friends who have porn sites, blogs, pages, etc. And while it can be profitable, EVERY SINGLE one of them will tell you how hard it is. There is NO OTHER online industry with more competition. Literally every fetish, straight, gay or other – has tens of thousands of sites, ALL advertising and trying to get a piece of the same pie. Is there potential – of course. is it very hard – YES. And there are some GREAT premade super professional template sites out there where you can buy a professional ready made porn site with everything included. But after doing that and getting the site, you actually have to get people to come to it in a very crowded sea of other porn sites. That is the real challenge to consider.

There is indeed great money to be made in porn sites but if you decide to start one be careful because while it is legal, the government is trying to make it harder and harder (no pun intended) all the time. The idea being to make it not worth it for you to start one since they haven’t found a way to censor the web yet. If you don’t follow the rules you could find yourself in a lot of trouble.

The thing with porn sites is you need money to start one. You need to retain an attorney at the very beginning, one that specializes in adult internet. They run anywhere from $750-$1500 to come on board. You need a great host with lots of bandwidth, and one that will do adult. You’ll find lots of resources for both these things by going to Cozy Academy. Cozy Academy is like going to school for adult webmasters. What you will find is lots of similarities for what we do…but the money making niche (once you learn the ropes) is in becoming a content provider.

I’m considered a content provider because I write short erotica stories for any niche. I sell my stories per basis, and also do customized stories, as well as I write stories to provided photos/video….

Adult webmasters are always looking for content providers and programmers.

Many of you have the talent to offer programming and possibly others, I wouldn’t set up a porn site, too much trouble in this country. I would settle on being a content producer, peddle your smut, get your money quick and live a nice clean life in the blogosphere.

Oh, come live in the Adult Webmaster Hangout (http://www.adultwebmasterhangout.com/forum) forum with me, I’m Arianne.

I write erotic ebooks at A1adultebooks.com – Honey West Adult Ebooks. I am just starting, but did make my minimum payout the first month, and was rather pleased with that. I Think the problem is that people who gripe that they can’t make money from porn/erotica on the internet are looking to get rich, or get rich fast. They don’t understand that it takes time and yes, there is competition. People want something for nothing these days, and nothing is free. You have to work for what you want. I am also interested in becoming an affiliate, and am looking into what’s involved. I don’t need to make a ton of money. It would be nice and I’d be thrilled if I did, but I am realistic. Drop by myspace at http://www.myspace.com/honeywestbooks and say hi. Just find your niche audience, really believe in it and target it and you WILL make some money. Maybe a little, maybe a lot, but something. Good luck to everybody!

Hey HoneyWest, I write for A1 also…I have a couple of books now that I’m putting together in proper form 4 them! congrats on making minimum payout!!

Yep, your point about making money online fast is a keeper. Because the internet has revolutionized our lives, and everything we request online is super fast, we also expect for our earnings to be super fast–like right after you write a post or request signups.

But, it’s not. It takes hard work to establish your reputation, your credibility (street cred so to speak) in order for people to actually notice you. And even then when you’re noticed, it may not be by the people in your own little niche.

    Hi Teasa!
Great to know that you’re also at A1. Continued success with your online erotica. Yes, it’s hard work but also a lot of fun when we make a sale :-) I read a very interesting article at a site called mickeyandmandy.com
I think their site is called The Porn Emporium – very well known, respected site. Anyway, it’s run by a guy who used to write for National Lampoon, a real biggie in the entertainment world, etc. and even HE said it took him years to build his site up to where it is today. Basically, to put it bluntly, ass in seat. Putting your rear-end in the seat and working the Net as hard as you can. He was lucky in that he had hours and hours per day to devote to it. Most of us aren’t in that position. But if even someone like that, with built-in high level contacts has to work hard for his money, us little fish have to be realistic about it. However, I totally agree that once you’re into the groove, the $$ will flow. Just takes time, (yeah, some talent too), creativity, thinking OUTSIDE the box and persistance/belief in your product, whether it’s porn or anything else.

    Hey all,
Great reading all your comments. Good luck to those in both mainstream and adult affiliate marketing. For those of you interested, you will not find any group more willing to help you get ahead. The adult industry really is a team environment. There are a ton of websites/forums out there that can teach you a ton about the industry. If you want, I offer a $7 ebook that puts together a simple A-Z strategy on getting started in adult. Either way, good luck to everyone.

    TeasasTips // June 24th, 2008 at 7:06 pm

Hey Trent, no disrespect, but why would someone pay for a $7 ebook, when you can go to http://www.cozyacademy.com and get it for free? Like I said in a previous comment folks, for those interested in getting started in adult marketing, visit cozy academy, join adult webmaster forum and you will get more info than you could ever use. It’s free, and it’s how I learned what I know about adult marketing. Yes, the adult industry is a team environment, and there isn’t an ebook out there that can help you.

You want to be known as a newbie, this way people will be more than willing to help you.

If you are going to start a website, the first thing that cozy academy teaches you is to consult an attorney who specializes in adult internet websites. Yes, there are plenty of them, just google them, or go to cozy academy.

    Trent // June 30th, 2008 at 9:44 am

@TeasasTips – I agree that forums are a great place to get free stuff. If you want to get information in general, yes it is obciously much cheaper than my $7 dollar ebook. Yes, $7, not $70 or $700. I understand Cozy is free, but what I offer is a concise, simple understanding and strategy. If you want to save the $7, go buy a starbucks coffee, and pour into Cozy academy… go right ahead. There are 36 lessons just on “paysite success” to pour through before you go to the classrooms section. If you would like a brief, user friendly guide to work with, perhaps $7 is something you can part with. How much is your time worth per hour? For $7, a blueprint might not be a bad idea.
Either way, good luck to everyone getting into adult.

  34. 34
    TeasasTips // June 30th, 2008 at 9:52 am

@Trent, I’m not trying to knock a source of revenue for you, however, the reason there are 36 lessons on paysite success is because if you are going to go full steam ahead and get into the adult website business for real, you should not cut corners. If your user friendly guide provides the same info as cozy academy but in a compact version, then $7 might work for some. But some newbies may need a little more instruction and cozyacademy.com may be what they need. Good luck on your book.

@TeasasTips – I don’t think we are talking about the same things…LOL If you are familiar with adult you will agree that any “newbie” has no business getting involved with a paysite. My ebook focuses specifically on how to profit with adult affiliate marketing. If you are looking for a comprehensive database of everything there ever was to know about in adult industry, cozy is for you… not my ebook. If you want to profit with little investment and low risk, without knowing every aspect of adult industry, my ebook is the easier tool. Sorry for jamming up the comments about this, I just want everyone to understand there is a significant difference.

  37. 37
    TeasasTips // June 30th, 2008 at 11:19 am

    @Trent:

Why wouldn’t a newbie get involved with a paysite? The veterans who were noobs b4 started with paysites…besides, if not a paysite anyone can become an adult affiliate for free…just like you can with non-adult sites.

  38. 38
    Trent // June 30th, 2008 at 1:06 pm

@TeasasTips – To quote Cozyacademy.com’s Introduction to Paysite Success:

“The modern adult paysite is a massive undertaking. One must incorporate excellent design, superior hosting along with gigs and gigs of content. In addition, the paysite must have a billing solution as well as competent customer support. Even with all of this, a paysite will go nowhere without learned and aggressive marketing.”

This is paragraph #2 in the introduction of lesson #1. Now, I don’t know what “newbie” is qualified to handle these items, but hey, go for it if you want to lose money. This is why most people getting into adult fail, they shoot for the moon before ever understanding the business. Do you have any idea how much “gigs and gigs of content” would actually cost?

The idea that anyone can become an adult affiliate is EXACTLY the point!! You can make money without the heavy startup costs. Once you learn the business, and get involved with awesome forums like cozy ;) you can then think about starting a paysite.

I know you are just trying to help the masses by saving them $7, but please agree that a newbie might get lost in the wealth of knowledge the cozyacademy has. And yes, I have been through most of that info on their site myself.

If you want to walk into a library of information about the adult industry and “try to figure it out”, by all means go ahead. Free is free! Just go ahead and ask the people in adult forums if they should start with a paysite or not…

McDonalds didn’t become McDonalds by creating the best tasting hamburger ever, they put together a quick and easy platform for getting a good hamburger and even offered fries with that :)

    TeasasTips // June 30th, 2008 at 1:51 pm

That’s not what I was saying Trent. Let me put it another way. What I’m saying is, a noob can sign up with an affiliate program, just like Pepperjam Network, and promote a pre-fabricated website. But there aren’t many adult affiliate millionaires out there. It’s a hard road to travel.

Yes I’m sure your ebook offers value and readers will benefit from it. I’m just saying there is more than one way to getting started in the adult industry.

As I stated in a previous comment I earn a huge percentage of my monthly income from the adult industry. I work from home full time writing adult stories, and other writing assignments.

In the past I have belonged and probably still do belong to a couple of adult affiliate programs. The two I belonged to paid me for a couple of sign ups. Then through networking in an adult forum I met several adult webmasters who gave me advice on making money with adult programs.

Overwhelmingly they advised me against most affiliate programs saying there are more sharks in the water than you can imagine. And that the way to long term residual income in the adult industry is by creating a content niche and offering it to adult webmasters.

  40. 40
    Trent // June 30th, 2008 at 2:14 pm

Ok. I hear ya. Yes, there are MANY sharks in the water. The thing is, there are many lazy sharks. I think you have to agree that in both mainstream and adult, it is a hard road to travel. The reason I like to work in adult is I flat out love porn, and you have to love what you do :) I talk exactly to these points in my ebook about how to avoid the “sea of sharks”.
The advice those people gave you is dead on… the best way to make the most money is to own content and let everyone else sell it for you via affiliate programs, but sometimes the best way to learn how to “coach” is to be a “player” first. So I suggest people understand the process before trying to run their own paysite. But you don’t necessarily have to read the entire playbook in football to understand the basics of run or pass. That was my point. Sorry if I wasn’t communicating that properly.

There are TONS of ways to make money in adult, and it sounds like you found a few. Affiliate marketing companies like pepperjam offer tons of campaigns and you can promote many of them via website, search, email, social networks, etc… if your new to affiliate marketing your eyes can begin to glaze over from all the options. My ebook tries to provide a solution to that headache.

Hopefully we both agree that BOTH can help people. I just happen to think cozy offers TOO MUCH information for the newbie. Even though it is very valuable info.

Best of luck with your writing!

I thought this one over when a porn company sent me an invite to their aff progam. I must say that I was impressed with the various aff tools, but I just couldn’t go through with it…

My thinking was the same as it is for some merchants who vehemently “talk down” on smoking, yet sell every brand under the sun or those who preach “NO to pork” yet sell swine -in all its forms- to whoever pulls out their wallets.

It’s not that I think sex is wrong in any way(Duh!!!) … I just don’t want my success coming from questionable things that tends to subtract from the magnetism success brings.

But like you said: “No one has to know that you’re behind the site. Let the A-listers be celebs, you can be the director… usually they get paid more too!” ;)

    Hey Oracle,
If being a porn aff isn’t for you, then you’re doing what’s best for you. To make a go of it in the adult world, whether it’s blogs, ebooks, adult reviews or whatever it is, you have to have a passion for it and personally enjoy it, not just for the money. With the economy the way it is, there’s no easy money out there, so ya gotta have the love for it. That’s my opinion. Blogging and being an adult affiliate opened other doors for me which otherwise I wouldn’t have known about, so I’m building on that. Yes, there are things I won’t support or get involved with, but my general motto is to each his/her own choices. Good luck to you in whatever way you decide to go, as long as it’s something you truly enjoy and care about.

I would never not consider anything for a price. If it pays I could be interested. And you really don’t hear a lot about people venturing into porn, probably because they are too embarrassed to make themselves public.

Ya its is true that we can make a great money with adult affiliate network. It is easy to earn from an adult site through adult affiliate programs. It needs some good knowledge on affiliate programs and some effort to make it successful. I am making a good profit by joining an adult affiliate site called sexbankroll.

I’ve actually tried making adult sites quite a few times. I think there is just to much competition around and people are used to free stuff, so unless you have experience in the field there is a high chance you’ll fail.

I have an adult site (www.eroticsyn.com) that I haven’t done a whole lot with (other than turn my husband on, lol). I am trying to figure out what I want to do with it still. Good article. It gave me more to think about at the right time.

Make Money With Porn // May 24th, 2009 at 11:40 pm

Porn is just another way to make money online and has it’s own positives and negatives. It’s not a market for everyone, but there is plenty of money to be made for those that don’t have a problem with adult.

Been writing porn reviews now for a year for an adult review site and yes, it is difficult. We’re still building the business and getting more traffic but the big problem is still all the free porn out there. To compete with free is very difficult. I also started a website for a pornstar – it’s not a paysite but does tie in to sponsors, it’s more of a fansite with potential but I wouldn’t recommend you do that unless you’re a devoted fan of a particular performer and willing to put in endless hours bringing other fans to the site. Yes, there is some $$ to be made but expect to put in many months if not years into your business. You’d better have another source of income because unless you have an inside track and built-in contacts, your profits will be small for quite awhile. I don’t run a porn site or shoot porn, I am an affiliate of various adult sponsors and write reviews. I don’t know what the future of online porn is because of the free content out there. You’d better have a lot of diversified backup plans in place to make any of it work….

Unfortunately the adult online world doesn’t work like you imagine it does.

These adult companies don’t sponsor posts and also there may be a lot of traffic but it is hard to get.

More money means hard to beat competition. Not trying to put off potential adult webmasters but one tip – go super-niche!

MichaelR – blogs and forums do get a lot of posts but that’s not the same as making money. Yes sex forums always attract a lot of posters but what percentage of them are willing to part with cash when there’s so much free porn out there? They like to talk on the forums as a community type of fun thing but when it comes to spending their money don’t count on it. I agree, super niche, plus lots and lots of time, promo, other gimmicks and ways to make it work is necessary. Free porn is what’s making things almost impossible – who pays for porn when they can it free? So be realistic, and yes, you can make some money but the old days of throwing up a site and thinking money will roll in are GONE GONE GONE.

Although id like to try this out, I just haven’t got the balls to do this as i’ll eventually get caught somehow lol. If you have got the balls then I think you should try it out.

Just don’t blame Jay if you get caught or if it doesn’t work out.

I just setup my first porn site. I’m 20-years-old, making around $500.00 per month without porn.

However, i have a great SEO strategy, and truly believe I am smarter than most porn website creators. We’ll see.

I run a site called statstation.com I know at first glance you wouldn’t think it would be a affiliate porn site, but it is! And the great news is that i set up a tgp on it, so I have galleries rotating daily without me having to do much maintenance. I’m currently using 3 affiliate sites, and they all seem to be doing their share of conversions. It helps if you get a domain that already had traffic coming to it, even if it’s not targeted traffic, most people stop and check out the scenery when it catches their eye (if ya know what I mean) haha. I’m nowhere near a millionaire, but I’m making a good share of disposable income with this, and that’s all i wanted anyway. Great article by the way.

    Tiddle // March 17th, 2010 at 2:53 am

Ok so im thinking about starting a porn blog, yea i know there are tons of them. I’m pretty sure I can make mine stand out and get noticed. I’m honestly not trying to get rich i just need a lil extra cash. Like maybe an extra 100 a month or so. Is it worth the effort for a lil extra money to start a blog and make money with the advertisements. Of course the site will be geared toward gay 18-30 year olds and it would be very scene. I’m thinking because I’m 19 i know exactly what I look for in porn. So it wouldn’t be crazy hard.should i do it. I would honestly be a site with pic, free embedded vids. And links to some porn site deals. everyone knows most people go from site to site and do their trials so that’s what i would be making money off of. It’s as easy as making it a really cool blog with my own opinions and making friends with the other well known gay porn blogger. Does it sound like i have a good plan that would give me a little extra cash?
