Yes, I’m talking to you Mr/Mrs. Big Time, your blog just isn’t the same as it once was. I understand times have changed, your pockets have gotten deeper and your readership has grown but you and your blog just isn’t the same!
Was it the time you spent trying to attract new readers that made you change? Was it the money that kept flowing in that made you forget why you was blogging to begin with? Was it the fact that you just didn’t have the same mindset and writing that your readers once craved for?
Maybe it was the fact that you started caring more about your stats (Google Pagerank, Alexa, RSS Feed subscribers, etc) than your loyal readers?
Well, we, as readers, are the people who make you who you are and make your blog successful. Without your readers, you would have nothing. Did you forget that?
I’m sure a simple reply would be “well, this is my blog, if you don’t like it, then screw you!” That may be true, but if all of us decided that we didn’t like it then who would really be the person who’d be screwed? Not me, as your reader.
Yes, I have unsubscribed to your RSS Feeds. Yes, I do not visit your blog as much as I once did. And yes, you just don’t care about us (your readers) like you once did when you had a fan base less than the number of fingers on your hand.
Your blog just isn’t the same as it once way and neither are you.
I’m sure I’m not the only person who feels this way. I’m sure a lot of you guys are probably wondering who I’m talking about and which blog? Well, it doesn’t matter on the specific person(s) that I’m talking about, but I’m sure every single one of us feels like this about a blog they no longer are a huge fan of anymore.
If there is a specific blog you feel just isn’t the same as when you first started reading them, which one is it?
Basically, I feel as though I give back to my readers and fellow bloggers but I’m sure not everyone feels that way. I see a bunch of people unsubscribing to my RSS Feeds and it’s understandable but am I one of those people who just isn’t the same as I once was when you first met me? Has my blog changed that much? If so, I hope someone will come up and tell me.
Anyways, I just had to get that off my chest because I do not want to become one of those types of people I just mentioned. If you guys ever notice, please feel free to kick me in the nuts or something.
By the way, I was going to post the contest today but I will wait for Monday to start the week with a bang!

Why you picking on Cow like that? Lol…I dunno who you are talking about because honestly, it could apply to several different blogs.
Sad but true I guess.

HAHAHHAHA someone is in a snit today. You really should name names. Screw the flak you might receive and just say it like it is.
But yeah from time to time I have that feeling I just unsubscribe and leave it at that. At some point I’m sure i’ll be mad as hell and just cut loose, makes for good link bait
Dont worry when you get too big for your britches I’ll hand you a boot!!
shane’s last blog post..Does selling your blog = screwing your readers?
True. Very true. I am always un/subscribing to various blogs. I give them a month or two. And if I am not really learning anything, or I am not being entertained then I give em up.
I too see a lot of people that have changed. And I have only been around for less then a year!

Btw dude, stop being a f*cking pussy, name names. Controversy never hurt traffic.

It’s sadly a trend you will see in many businesses. As businesses become more successful they lose site of what made them successful.
Ned Carey’s last blog post..My Day in Court
This was actually a really good post, and most likely what a lot of people think about other blogs sometimes, but don’t actually state it out in the open.
I don’t know, though. I tend to be a bit of a realist that keeps my expectations of others at a reasonable level. Is it not realistic that as bloggers get ‘bigger’, they also get busier? Some things are bound to change, and we can’t be so afraid of change and development. I mean, really. It’s much easier to be a newbie and comment back to the couple of readers one has. I’ve seen some probloggers that don’t have a chance to keep up with 50-100 comments on each post.

Heh, Everything changes. That’s the way it supposed to be, when You have 10 visitors per day You can satisfy them with what You’re writing. But when You have 10k visitors daily then satisfying 5% of them i a much of a task…Your blog also changed a lot from the beggining so You practically critique Yourself too

Okay … you got me to actually pull up this post … that’s what its all about anyway … right? Great post, great blog, keep it up, no reason to pull others through the mud, just as long as you continue to pull people in, isn’t that the main goal? I’m always curious as to why people click on blogs found through various blog catalogs … catchy blog title? curious about users name? what makes people click?
Stay as you are Sir J … stay as you are! ~j.
Bill – LOL! I was just talking in general but there are plenty of blogs out there like that. I mean, everyone says they’re sick of John Chow’s dinner meals lol…
Shane – Well, I could name names and put EVERYONE on blast because I’m sure this has happened to all of us, and someone mentioned me as well lol!
T (simple mindz) – Yeah, I unsubscribed to a few blogs myself and I’m sure I’m talking about myself as well in the post because I saw a few people unsubscribe to my RSS Feeds!
Jason – If I named names, the list would just go on forever. Plus, I’m sure people would just think I’m a hypocrite (which EVERYONE IS) but still…
Ned – That’s exactly what I mean, but I understand that people will get busy but they shouldn’t lose site on what made them that way. It’s almost like celebrities without fans, you know?
Tamera – That is very true. And don’t get me wrong, if I received hundreds of comments, it would be hard for me to comment on every single one but I would try, especially since the comments are where you can interact and exchange ideas.
Geekhall – You’re absolutely right, I did critique myself as well, but notice how I’m still lending my hand to people who need help, still willing to help when people e-mail me directly, answer questions, give free link love, etc. I know I changed since the beginning of this blog but I still try to give back to the readers.
Catea – Well, change isn’t always bad but I try NOT to lose focus of my readers. I mean, I can’t please everyone…
Tomatobaby – Well, it’s not about great titles because I could write titles like “You suck at life so your blog sucks as well!” and I’m sure that will get peoples attention. I mean, I got suckered into a few posts like “I’m suing Google” and then when I read the post it’s like “Oh, just playing I’m not but since you’re here…” and I hate that lol.
But to answer your question about Blogcatalog, I believe its more of the interaction that makes people click through. I think I’m pretty active in the discussions and communicating with other bloggers that’s why they probably click through?

Jay’s last blog post..Your Blog Just Isn’t the Same as it Once Was!
I know you would Jay. Being successful and busier as a result, doesn’t mean one stops trying. It just becomes more difficult to keep up in the same way. You can even see ProBlogger dealing with it. He’ll answer maybe the first 10-20 comments in one comment, and in the end thank everyone else that happen to comment afterwards. He’s just having to prioritize his time a little differently. I still don’t think people should take it too personally. Anyone self-employed whatever their business is (even blogging) eventually experiences those busy periods, and gets a taste of it. They suddenly sit in other shoes, and understand it a little more.
Tamera Daun’s last blog post..Personal Development- Mindful Matters
I just read an answer you gave someone else. It certainly is important to remember how one got to be successful (or, popular). In just remembering it, I think one remembers to stay in contact with that fundament. It takes care of itself. I really do like this post. ;o)

I think that a lot of bloggers just don’t feel the need to work so hard to earn that extra buck that they did when they first started and were hungry for loyal readers. I agree, whenever you have a website/blog you should always write content for your readers first… and then think about search engines, etc.

As people grow, and businesses grow, a little change can be good.
Indeed a little change can be necessary at times as you adapt to what works.
As long as they don’t forget the reason they were blogging in the first place…
Change is inevitable, but it would be nice if the big sites could remain even remotely the same. That said, if any of us regular bloggers were to suddenly strike it rich and earn several thousand dollars per month, our content and writing style would change, too.
Heck, I know mine would … the posts would get longer and better researched. If I’m earning several thousand a month, then I don’t need to work full time and blog part time
Great article. I’ve just subscribed to your RSS.
