This is extremely off-topic but this can relate to making money online with the power of persuasion and how you can get away with stuff. Again, this is off-topic but I just had to express myself because this is such a serious matter.
I’m not sure how many people heard about the Sean Bell case, an unarmed groom-to-be who was shot down right before his wedding day by NYPD officers. Matter of fact, it was a 50-shot killing of Bell, a 23-year-old man who was murdered during his bachelors party on the night of Nov. 25, 2006.
Well, the verdict is in – the three detectives were acquitted of all charges on this Friday morning. Which is bullshit and this just shows the world two things: the justice system in the United States is obviously flawed and if you’re in law enforcement you can get away with anything, including murder.
I’m not going to lie, I may be responding in a biased manner but how many times do you see police officers abusing their privileges? Whether it’s the smallest things like putting their police lights to run a red light (and end up at Dunkin Donuts using their police officer discount to get coffee and a honey glazed) to harassing and shooting innocent people because they feel like it, either way, who are these police officers really protecting?
I can tell you, as a U.S. citizen, not me.
This particular case just reinforces the unnecessary force that police officers use and it almost brings up the idea – who are these police officers really protecting? Themselves? Do they really need to carry 9mm glock?
Well, Officers Michael Oliver, Gescard Isnora and Marc Cooper were acquitted of all charges. And just for the record, Oliver squeezed off 31 shots; Isnora fired 11 rounds; and Cooper shot four times.
Of course, this case brings back the painful memories of yet another former shooting from NYPD Officer of Amadou Diallo, who was shot 41 times when he reached for his wallet. I’ll say that again, 41 times for reaching for his wallet.
So, how does this relate to making money online or blogging? Well, it doesn’t really but let’s try anways. Take the three detectives who got away with murder, if you have connections with other people, there are limitless things you can get away with do. On top of that, making money online is all about the power of persuasion. And just like the story the officers gave to convince the judge and jury, even as a lie, if you can convince people to come to your site or buy your product, at the end, that’s all that matters. Compared to blogging, well, if you write about hot topics and trends, I can guarantee you’ll get great search engine traffic and publicity – whether it’s good or bad.
So, I do want to apologize for this very off-topic post, but I just felt this was not fair. And although, I may be biased because of the unjust stuff that I ran into from police officers, this subject needs to be made aware to regular folks. Because who knows? This could happen to you.

Frankly, this really pisses me off. Another painful example of the crap that goes down in US courthouses on a surprisingly regular basis. That these guys won’t be locked up for what they did is just absolutely ridiculous – and it’s not even the first time this happens. It’s a tragedy, it’s an embarrasment for ALL of us (humanity evidently still has a long way to go), and it’s a f..ing scandal of grand proportions. So I have no problem with your off-topic post, Jay. This needs to be brought up and done something about, whatever the venue.

Yes, the justice system over here is screwed, and the rest of the world sees and knows it.

Tamera,
To be honest, it sadly happens over here as well. We had a case a couple of years ago where a man (Eugene Obiora) was choked to death AFTER being arrested, handcuffed and put flat on his stomach by four policemen. There were no shortage of witnesses to the murder, still the the case was ultimately dismissed by the court due to ‘lack of evidence,’ and the four assholes walked. Incidentally, the murdered man was of non-Norwegian ethnicity, and the police officer who put a choke hold on him had been previously convicted of racism – something which there seems to be no shortage of amongst the Norwegian police force. You know, it’s really just absurd. Hearing about these court verdicts sometimes make pinch yourself to make sure you’re not dreaming. So yup. We still have a LONG way to go.

Before any of you run off to NYC to join the lynch mob were any of you privvy to the details of the trial? The evidence presented?
Me either. I am sure the “news” has reported whatever facts they felt would garner the most viewers or sell the most magazines.
I am not saying any of you are wrong, but one thing my years have taught me is that there are ALWAYS three sides to the story. His, Hers and the truth.

Harald – You do know things aren’t going to EVER fully change in our lifetime, right? It’s pretty unfortunate but that’s the world we live in… you always have the good with the bad.
Tamera – I guess this is a reason why I dislike police, the government, etc.
Bill – You are right, the media reported whatever facts and that’s probably just another reason why they got away with murder. And no one will officially know unless they were there…

Okay, I’m MIXED with this one. Couple things to point out. DISCLOSURE – As a Criminal Defense Investigator I typically serve the defense bar. Second, a lot of my friends are LEO’s and SA’s. That said, here’s my two cents.
In order for a democracy to succeed and you could define succeed however you wish, we have to empower the “government” (3 branches, legislative, executive, judicial) to create, enforce and monitor rules. If you live in America then you are subjected to its laws. That said, if a Police Officer, whether RIGHT or WRONG tells you to STOP. You STOP!!! Period, end of statement. If it’s a lawful order, then FINE, if it’s an unlawful order, then FINE. How can that be? Well if its lawful then they are carrying out their sworn duties, if its unlawful then you use the other branches of government to seek redress ie You get paid.
If a person has a badge and a gun COMPLY. If they violate your rights, SUE AFTERWARDS. I know there are rogue cops, and I know they are excellently trained to document what they want to come across, but I also know that they are EMPOWERED to issue commands. This was an unfortunate incident without a doubt, but I can’t tell you how many people RUN, SPEED AWAY, IGNORE the police when they identify themselves and issue a COMMAND to STOP. If you reach for ANYTHING it is presumed to be a gun. You don’t have the RIGHT to refuse the Officer’s lawful command, and unless you’re an attorney you don’t necessarily know if the command was lawful or not, so just comply, don’t reach into your pants, stop when they tell you to stop, avoid bad areas, and accept some responsibility for your mouth, actions, and attitude. You have less of a chance of being shot.

The police have only been helpful example of one instances; my girlfriend was being followed almost every night by a bum after closing from a retail store. After calling our local police station a officer watched the store from 7-10pm, for seven days, to make sure that one African American female was not harmed. I don’t think Sean Bell’s story should be sugar coated because he’s a minority. I am a minority and I find that offensive. Bell was arrested on three occasions twice for dealing drugs and once for illegal firearms possession. And what was he doing at a“bachelor sleazy place like the Club Kalua? As far as I’m concerned it’s less scum off the streets that I or my girlfriend and future children have to worry about.
Joe – I don’t think it has anything to do with him being a minority, especially this one or two of the cops doing the shooting was a minority. It has everything to do with cops using unnecessary excessive force, I mean, 51 shots?! You would have swore they were at war… also, the fact that police take advantage and abuse their privileges and they could get away with murder, in this case, and any other cases…

The all story is revealing in a mysterious way. That is why its too strange to understand it. There are lots of professional drug dealers in NYC like Bell but I don’t know where is the Govt. to stop their illegal activities?
