Where to Find and How to get Advertisers to Buy Direct Ad Space

tattoo on lower back to advertiseA lot of people always want to know where to find advertisers, and of course, there are plenty of middleman companies that would do it for you. (Showyouradhere, Adtoll, Projectwonderful, etc) But with those ones, it’s never a guarantee you’ll actually get an advertiser to buy ad space on your site, in addition, they usually take a percentage of your profits.

So, how do I get started?

Well, let me just say, if your site/blog is big enough, you should have no problem because these advertisers will find you. And when and if they do, you have to make sure you actually have a contact page for them to reach you. With no contact, they have no way of making you an offer.

Secondly, you should also have an “advertise here” page which gives your prices and blog stats. You should always emphasize the best aspects and run with it, and you should always update your stats regularly.

What I do is; I show my progression of how much my stats jump each week/month so people know my site is just continuing to grow day in and day out. So, essentially, they should jump on the opportunity while the prices are still low.

How to Find Advertisers?

Again, there are middleman companies that are willing to find them for you for a cost, but if you are willing to work – yes, work – to cut the middlemen out, then here are a few tips.

I’m sure, as a blogger, you visit tons of new blogs on a regular basis, and if you don’t, then why are you reading this again? But you can find a similar niche site and see what advertisers they have. More than likely, if they are advertising on their blog, they would definitely consider advertising on yours.

Here’s the secret people tend to overlook… and get this, click on those ads! Why, you ask? Well, by clicking on those ads, it takes you to their page. On their pages, there should be some sort of contact information.

Well, what are you waiting for? Take the initiative and contact them in a professional manner. The worst thing they can say is “no thank you” or never reply back to you.

Another way of finding advertisers (without the middleman) is to ask around, particularly in forums such as Digital Point. Although, there are tons of people you need to be cautious about in there, DP is one of the biggest forums online now. They have a whole section devoted to Selling, Advertising, etc. Just post in that section, and if you don’t find advertisers, I can guarantee you that you’ll get traffic! So, it’s like a win win situation.

You can also simply ask some of your blogging friends. I’m sure if the price is right, or if you offer some sort of discount to friends, there will be tons of people willing to advertise. Matter of fact, if the price is right, I will consider advertising on your page!

So, keep in mind:

- You have take some initiative to find advertisers. The more work you put into it, the better. And once you find these advertisers and they’re satisfied, they’ll continue to renew so there will be less work for you in the future.

- Also be persistent, but not annoying. You don’t want to spam people with the same messages over and over again.

- Lastly, be patient. Believe me, you will get a lot of people that say no, and that’s fine. Just make sure you’re persistent and always follow-up when needed. Who knows? Maybe they say no in the beginning and run right back to you down the road.

I hope this helps! Let me know if you guys have any questions.

Ok I’ll place my ad there!!! Great attention grabber. She would be perfect for bike week. I would get so much traffic my host server would crash… However my question is, I have tried most of what you are saying. I have a new blog for women and motorcycle, not a lot of competition. It ranks well on Google and Yahoo. All in all it is a great site. But for some reason I can’t get any takers in the advertising department… I have a few ads from my affiliates and third party ads, but I want to attract the bread and butter advertisers that want to sell women motorcyclist related products. Could use some help here. Thanks

Hey Jay, how’s it going?! This is definately something i’ve been thinking about for some time. Currently I am giving away ad spots (6 of them). Before I decide to outside of my current blog neighborhood, into the areas you mention I’d like to offer up some ad space to those who visit my blog frequently. and or just keep it in the neighborhood. Love the hood first !!
I’m going for the Karma approach give it away to get it back in turn. That and I just bought a house so I’m giving away space in my blog as a house warming gift. Not sure if this is the best idea in the world but I really want to help out some bloggers get some exposure. ANyways that’s just my .02$$ on the matter.
    Talk to you later jay

Shane – Of course you have to love the hood man! I mean, people will look at your kindness and definitely give you some love back… too bad it’s not EVERYONE though, huh?
