Never Underestimate Commenting!

Monday, March 24th, 2008 | Blogging - MISC, Blogging for Traffic with 83 Comments

Lacey Chabert is sexy telling you to commentWe all do this, it’s more common than you think; we tend to not comment as much as we should on other blogs. I mean, there are tons of reasons why people should, but we all have to remember the small things that will help us in the future. I mean, the hard part is to read the entire post. Once you get over that little hump, the easy part is to take 10 seconds to make a quick comment.

So, why should I leave comments?

The obvious reason is because you’ll get the attention of the blog owner and possibly get in good with them. But that’s not the only reason why you should.

First of all, you will get guaranteed traffic. The guaranteed traffic has a few variables, of course. If you participate with an in-depth, interesting comment, you’ll catch other commentator’s attention which will draw them to your site. Also, it depends on how big the blog is. For instance, I commented on Doshdosh once and simply from that one comment I left, I received double-digit visitors.

Just make sure you include your website URL or no visitors for YOU!

Also, with the guaranteed traffic, most blog owners (including myself) has the “comment luv plugin” which displays your most recent post through your RSS Feeds. This works just as good as including a link within your comment or signature.

You’ll get rewarded. Uh huh, you will. There are so many blogs that reward their top commentators with a backlink to their site. Matter of fact, I just installed that plugin so you’ll be getting a backlink from my PR4 site! This will help you with your own pagerank and .

Not only will you get rewarded with backlinks, but some people hold daily, weekly or monthly contests in which it’s just as simple to enter as commenting! Hey, if you were going to comment anyways, you’ll just increase your chances of winning in a contest you might have not known about!

Lastly, you will get noticed! I mentioned this already, but the more you comment on a particular site, I guarantee you that the blog owner will notice. But the more you comment, the more you’ll get noticed. I mean, look at it this way; all these big name bloggers read each others blogs – whether it’s for competitive reasons or because they’re a fan – and just by commenting, you just increased your exposure to them.

Also, commenting does not only apply to blogs. Commenting on social bookmarking and media sites will increase your chances of getting exposure to your profile which leads to your site!

Don’t worry; I finally switched over to Wordpress so it makes it easier for you guys to comment. And not only that, I installed “comment luv” and “top commentators” plugins.

So, what are you waiting for? Start commenting already!

I don’t think most people need any rewards to comment if the post is really interesting and they really have something to say about it. At least I don’t! And you don’t really need a sexy chick on every post to attract people. :)

Young – LOL! Hey, like I wrote in http://www.datmoney.com/2008/02/5-reasons-why-you-should-include-images-in-every-post.html you should include images to attract your readers lol… but thanks for commenting!

Raj – You are absolutely right. Though, I was stating the fact that people tend to overlook the power of commenting and how it can help you in more ways than one. And I can’t help with the sexy chicks… lol it’s a drug I tell ya!

I think the great thing about blogs is the comment section. It’s great to have the ability to interact with the author and like-minded viewers. I rarely visit blogs that have their comments section disabled. After all, I want to know what everyone is thinking. Good lookin’ women help too, I suppose! ;)

Rob – I rarely see people who have their comments section disabled. Plus, you always want to hear open minded opinions, and sometimes it leads to juicy gossip lol

Bobby – That was brought over from the move from Blogger. Notice how there’s no link for it. I tried to filter it but it wasn’t working right so hopefully a lot of people will comment so that gets pushed away.

Linc – LOL! Honestly, I almost wanted to leave her up for another day. But don’t worry, I put the link on my most recent post for those who want to see a picture of the sexy Eva Mendes!

Nanjo – I’m curious now, which picture would you have put to attract people?

Frank – Yeah, definitely. A lot of people STILL overlook that fact… but I have to start commenting a LOT more!

Christian – LOL! I bet after each paragraph, you scrolled back up to look at her, huh? lol

Rachel – I commented on your blog but like I said, your blog wasn’t what I expected when I first read “Baked blog” lol!

Mike – Don’t worry man, after I get rejected by her I’ll say “Hey, Mike searchfeature said how YOU doin?” lol

Scott – Backlinks help you in various ways – Technorati authorities, Google Pagerank, SEO, etc. The “comment luv” plugin is, well, look at some of the comments with the “last blog post” and link… basically, the “comment luv” plugin takes your latest post from your feed and posts it whenever you comment. Hope that helps, feel free to ask questions.

Dette – Well, most people say to start at Blogger and then switch to Wordpress. So whenever you feel comfortable about switching, let me know and I’ll try to help you out!

I do not know about the others, I only comments on topics catch my eye. I do not know the benefit before I read this post. Hi Jay,
I totally agree on the true benefits of commenting. But apart from the backlinks potential, it’s growing your blogging community and making new friends too. As it is blogging by itself is already pretty boring so this adds a different dimension to it. It makes IM not so impersonal after all.

Well, this is exactly the post that I needed to read right now.

I have been commenting recently on blogs which I have been reading and wondering whether or not it is worth the effort (it is some effort if you are going to comment properly).

This post has made it really clear to me and I thank-you for the shared wisdom.

Yea nice picture of the girl. Do you have a resource for public domain images of cute women? I am seriously looking so let me know if you have the chance, thanks.

I do agree that commenting will help bring traffic to your blog or site.

I actually started commenting a couple of weeks ago and I noticed the traffic it brings to our VoIP and Tech blog. Also I found excellent blog sites by checking the blogs of those I see who makes regular comments.

Forget about blog lists, commenting will get you traffic and will let you find very good blog sites at the same time.

Not only will you get rewarded with backlinks, but some people hold daily, weekly or monthly contests in which it’s just as simple to enter as commenting! Hey, if you were going to comment anyways, you’ll just increase your chances of winning in a contest you might have not known about!
