The Potential Traffic from Various Social Media Sites

social media and bookmarking sites

As you may know, social media sites are a great way of bringing in traffic but how much can it actually bring in?Well, just the other day I was reading an interesting article from SEOCO and they broke down individual social media sites and how much traffic you could potentially get. Some of the sites I have never even heard of and the amount of the ‘potential’ traffic was quite shocking.

Well, not exactly ‘shocking’ but more like “Damn, I’m not getting that kind of traffic!”

But I sure wish I was! But only hard work, dedication and time will tell.

Okay, okay, enough stalling already, right? Here are the ‘potential’ numbers you can get from a few social media sites that I currently use.

stumbleupon logoStumbleUpon – you could potentially get 1,000 to 40,000+ uniques a day! But for this to happen, your post will have to get about 50 or more Stumbles before it attempts to reach those kinds of numbers. Plus, the affect apparently only lasts for just a couple of days before it dies off.

So, what are you waiting for? Start stumbling!

digg logoDigg – I actually stopped using Digg. And if you’re a consistent visitor of DatMoney.com, you may have noticed that I took down the Digg widget from my posts. Apparently, my site is “spam.”

But for those that are interested, Digg is overrated Digg is only good for bringing in traffic IF your article makes it onto the frontpage. If it doesn’t, is it really worth it? But you could potentially get 3,000 to 35,000+ uniques… again, IF your article makes it to the frontpage.

And the lastly affect, well, there usually isn’t a “lastly affect.” Rumors have it that the traffic only lasts for one day. But if they like your site, who know? Maybe they’re subscribe to your RSS Feeds and/or continue to come back?

Though, most Digg users are ruthless. Lol!

mixx logoMixx – Mixx is similar to Digg but just not as big. And unlike Digg, Mixx gives you a fair chance of making it onto the frontpage without knowing a power Digg user.

Plus, you can submit your article to multiple categories instead of that one sub-category. Though, because Mixx is smaller than Digg, making it on the frontpage may be easier but you’ll only end up with a few hundred visitors.

Hey, I’ll take that! Especially since your chances are a LOT higher to get on the frontpage without knowing a power Mixxer.

sphinn logoSphinn – is becoming more popular as we speak. I mean, Maki of Doshdosh uses it himself! So, that must tell you something. But if your article is made popular, you can receive a few hundred visitors within 24 hours span.

bloggingzoom logoBloggingZoom – does seem to be as big as the other social media sites, but this one does focus on news from bloggers. So, unlike Digg, your content won’t be buried in two seconds. But if your article becomes popular, you can receive probably 100 in a day.

PostonFire – This is a new social media site, so it isn’t as big so I wouldn’t expect too many uniques each day. But the good part is that you’ll be able to get good quality visitors. I just checked my stats and the average visitor spends 3:23 minutes looking through about 2 and a half pages.

Yes, that’s quality compared to users that spend 10 seconds on your page.

Stay tuned because this will have to be a two part set. Maybe even a three part set!

yup all true because social networks are the new trend to day. However, I am having a hard time attending to all at the same time. It’s pretty stressing…

I’ve read about & seen these sites but never actually became active in promoting my own posts.

I’ve always thought that I shouldn’t be submitting my own posts, that thought kept me from doing that.

I might be wrong but that’s how I’ve behaved ever since except on stumbleupon. :)

More helpful than other similar articles. Maybe a test to see what attracts the most clicks on a site would be in order.

    Thanks-

One thing I like about Sphinn and Mixx is the time it takes for posts to travel from New to Hot. The process is a little long, but on the flip side it gives you good visibility for 48-72 hours.

    Thanks for that useful post.
I have a little correction about StumbleUpon though. I’ve been using SU for over a year now, and in some cases got as much as 1500-2000 unique users for 3-4 days. Also, some of my posts keep getting hundreds of unique users every week from SU.
It’s not true that you have to get 50 thumbs in order to get this much traffic. It’s more important WHO stumbles than how many stumbles you get. In some cases, I got 1000 uniques and more after only 5-8 thumbs up. This is partly because my own profile (http://shooky.stumbleupon.com/) is pretty strong.

Wah, I was thinking of posting about this sites and it’s been on my drafts for days now. Only that I couldn’t formulate my thoughts. Good post I must say.

I think you can add BlogEngage. It also brings potential traffic and you have the chance to get published.

Currently, I only rely on StumbleUpon. Simply because I’m a SU Junkie, and I have no experience in the others. I’ve recently done an experiment with SU that I’m going to be posting on my blog soon. I was able to take my average daily audiance (about 50 uniques) and turn it into 600 in one day.

I’ll have to try out these others that you’ve mentioned. Maybe I’ll experiment with them for a future post.

Thanks for the great info. Stumbled!

StumbleUpon seems to be the best for “consistent” social media traffic. I say “consistent” because there’s really no such thing as consistent SMO – just very close to consistent :)

Nice list. I belong to the top two. Joined to many now and just can’t keep with them at times.

I have a few fav ones but need to either spread myself a little thinner or concentrate harder on the ones I belong too.

    What is best? Who knows.

    Gotta keep on keeping on

@Jason – Social ads do work for some people and they’re making a killing – but there’s a right way and lots of wrong ways to do it.
