I started to pay closer attention to my statistics on both of my main blogs – DatCurious.com and DatMoney.com – and the numbers don’t match up, especially with sites like Alexa.com and Compete.com.
I know a lot of people don’t rely on Alexa and Compete, but sadly, we probably all still go there just to see what they rate us in their traffic rank; better yet, a lot of sites use Alexa or Compete to determine how much traffic a site is getting – though, the numbers are deceiving.
So Jay, the numbers don’t match up? Obviously not, or there would be no purpose of this post .;-) But I hope I’m not the only one either.
See, the good part about having two different blogs is you get to compare the stats to each other. And oddly enough, the blog that gets more traffic (more than twice as much and on some occasions three times as much) ranks worse in both Alexa and Compete.
How in the hell does that work? I have no idea, but I took screen shots a couple days ago and you guys be the judge. The first is DatCurious stats…
I understand the 3-month stats, they are reasonable especially the fact that DatCurious is two months older than DatMoney, but everything else, I don’t get.
I took that picture two days ago so the stats should reflect December 28th or 29th. On DatCurious, I received 400 then 750 uniques between the two days while DatMoney only received slightly more than 200 on each of those days.
I didn’t bother taking screen shots of Compete because it was basically stating the same thing as Alexa. I mean, we all know Alexa and Compete are almost equivalent to Google Pagerank, it doesn’t really mean much, but yet, people rely heavily on them and a lot of us get screwed over it.
Luckily, at least one of my blogs are given pretty good stats with them… unfortunately, it’s the wrong site but I’ll take what I can get!
